Mr. Jensen led one group on a steep climb on bare rocks. Only four boys reache d the summ it. Anoth er group follow ed Mr. Dewey and Mr. Sande rson on a long hike throug h the beauti ful scener y up toward the rock quarry and dm,v n to the power house. Only eleven students covere d the entire distan ce. After the hikes the entire class assembl ed and played games . Later a large fire was built and "weini es" were roaste d. Ferner ie· and flower pots made of concre te will soon adorn our steps and entran ces A new garden plot is being laid out south and west of the platoo n build· ing. The work of impro vemen t has not been confin ed to the front of the buildin g, howev er. Mr. Horne &nd the physic al educat ion classe s have weed· ed and raked the entire .campu s. They have laid out a new full sized football fields, and erecte d new goal posts. They have hauled every bit of rubbis h away. For severa l days a grader was at gradin g the work levelin g and ground s. As a result of this work the ground s are in better condit ion than they have ever been. Greenw ood. Four of the new teachers are teachi ng in the junior high school . Verno n J. Lee Maste r of Provo is handli ng the art and chorus .vork of the school ; Alton F. Richa rds ?f Ogden , is teachi ng mathe matics ; M. L. Jensen , who has been a teache r in the Granit e school distric t, is headng the social scienc e depart ment; and Miss Helen Stokes is teachi ng English and literat ure. The eleme ntary grades have three A the new teache rs. Miss Adele Peters of Provo, Miss Beryle Larsen 1f l:<~ail-view, and Miss Alice Maugh an ?f Brigha m are teachi ng in the second and third grades . SHOR T TOPIC S The enroll ment of the shop classe s totals 192 boys. The tennls courts of the school have been in consta nt use by studen ts and townsp eople. Three county tournamen ts have been held on them. It is quite a credit to the school and town to have furnis hed whole some recrea tion for so many people during che spring , summ er and fall. 'TH E ·UT AH.· TA X SIT TE R' Midva le's footba ll team has made a splend id beginn ing. Last Thurs day they won from ~ large Rivert on team by a score of 19 to 6. The play was good from the standp oint of team work. Tax exemp tions now given to certain classes of wealth would be remov ed if the people pass the constit utiona l amend ments to be voted on at the Novem ber election. These amend ments are design ed to open the way for the legisla ture to tax the $210,000,000 annual incomE: in Utah, that is now paying no direct tax. Reven ue from this income would be used to reduce the tax load on the presen t taxpay ers.
