I LOS ANGELES, July 17-The! swine situation so far as price levels are concerned,' continues about the same as last year. The spring pig crop was slightly less than a year ago. This Ls the best information we have to forecast for the fall run. We must keep In mind, however, that the purchasing power is about one-third less than a year ago, with all commodity prices substantially less than last year. While we hear a lot of talk about what the dollar will buy, we must remember that there are about 250 million leu dollars in circulation and that the withdraw! of this money f rom commercial channels must refleet Itself all along the line. At present prices of hogs, barley will pay better than $2.00 per cwt. In feeding and fattening of hogs, whereas it is worth less than $1.00 per cwt. for other purposes. How can you make money any faster than to convert this feed into pork at present prices? The farmer who 'raises his own pigs and his feed is in a very independent position and if he sticks to the business year in and year out, he will find the best financial returns by using his concentrates and roughage for the fattening of livestock, and while on that subject, let's make a note of some of the complaints we have recently had on the improper finishing of hogs by the premature feeding of grain before the pig was ready. So far as growth and constitution are concerned, there is no better feed J' .. I • :WHY is Electric Cooking the choice of the modefll housewife! HE HAS ing me $13 worse off on zinc alone than under the present system. Yet we made money." Mr. Moore is also optimistic on silver: "The signs of the times point to a better price for silver. In two years, I expect to see silver selling around 50 to 60 cents an ounce. Leading papers are beginning to attribute our depressed foreign trade to the drop in llilver. Only the other day I read an article on the silver situation in the Saturday Evening Post. Mark sumvan also commented on the seriousness of the silver situation with regard to world trade. Articles of a similar trend appeared in the New York Times, and the Herald Tribune. "Imagine an eastern writer writing sympathetically on the silver question twenty years ago. Today, the attitude of business men and financiers is more friendly. They realize that you cannot cut the buying of two-thirds of the population of the earth in half and not effect everyone's buying power seriously. Twothirds of the world's people know no other money than silver and will accept no other. Paper to them is the same as counterfeit to us. And gold, they never see it."-Park Record. "Just the other day I went over a number of my old smelter settlement sheets. It reminded me of the days when we thought lead at 3.90 cents meant a return of boom days. How many people realized that for 20 years lead hardly ever got above an average of $4.30 a hundred.
