Show Thursday, February 12, 1998 Roger and Lila Allred, of lime for Amy Hintze Amy Hintze, daughter of Scott and Jannie Hintze of Manti, received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award Sunday, February 8. Amy was one of three young women to receive the award in a special Young Womanhood Recognition program in the Manti Second Ward. Amy earned this award after making and completing goals for six years. Her projects included making a cedar chesf, typing and compiling a 1997 calendar for every family in her ward, creating a ' 4 Spring City, have been chosen to receive the annual Sweetheart Award, at Friday Forum, on February 13, at 12:30 p.m. at the Ephraim LDS Institute of Reli- , gion. The Sweetheart Award is by the Institute faculty and students to a couple who exemplify the LDS standards of marriage and who have reared a line LDS family. The Allieds are the 21st couple to be honored as a Sweetheart Couple. Roger and Lila Allred were married on December 27, 1946 in pie-sent- Spring City. They were later wooden replica of the Young Women symbol, completing a scrapbook of her trip to Mexico, sealed in the Manti Temple on October 9, 1947. After their marriage t hex moved to Provo, Utah, where and cutting out a wooden value craft for each young woman in her ward. Lorraine Wallace, Juab commit- tee coordinator, is hosting the event. The committee unanimously reinstated Mark Anderson, as Ephraim to another four-yeacommittee chairman. Its been suggested the committee make a greater effort this car to provide general feedback to nominees about their performance. After the awards program, rs feedback will be given to nominees by request through high school coordinators. These students have a need to know how they can improve for the future, said Anderson. But at the same time, nomi winners qualifying them to compete in the region competition, he said. These are the best of the best students, added Anderson. Over $90,000 in scholarships are being offered this year. This year, 14 colleges and universities are offering scholarships. College of Eastern Utah, Dixie College, Snow College, and Utah Valley State College are offering scholarships to high school winners. Brigham Young University, LDS Business College, Ricks College, Salt Lake Community College, Southern Utah University, Stevens Henager College of Business, University of Utah, Utah State University, Weber State College, and Westminster College of Salt Lake City are offering scholarships to region winners and runners-up. Students will be judged on Tuesday, March 3 , in Centcrficld by judges from Brigham Young University, Southern Utah University, and Utah Valley State 1 Roger attended Brigham Young University for three vears. I hey them moved to Logan, Utah where he attended Utah State. Roger graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He taught industrial arts for one vear and then went into elementarj education. A few years later lie became the principal of Spring City School. Lila worked part the city of Spring City and acted ;is city treasurer. Roger and Lila are the parents of five children: Margo Harpster, Leslie Allied. Julie Allred all of Salt Lake City. Utah; Neola Jones of West Bountiful and Whitney Allred of Spring City. The Allreds aie the grandparents of six grandchildren I he Alheds are actively involved in the LDS Church, fulfilling man callings. Roger has served as bishop, high council, counselor in stake presidency, and as stake president. On the day he was released from being the stake president Elder Boyd K. Packer surprised him with the call of being the stake patiiarch. lie has been serving as patriarch for the past 20 years. I ila served as a gospel doctrine teacher for 2 years. She has also seived in the stake Relief Society and Primary organizations. he Allreds enjoy traveling and have been to Europe, the Drew Newell Soderborg Rio De Janeiro Mission Drew Newell Soderborg had accepted a call to serve in the Brazil Rio De Janeiro Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. A missionary farewell will be held Sunday Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Ephraim First and Fifth ward chapel. Drew is the son of Mark and Paula Soderborg of Ephraim. Val Anderson. County Executive Director for the Farm Serv ice Agency,- formally known as ASCS, has announced the results of the election held recently. Kent Christensen was elected to a three year term on the County Committee. He will replace Larry Stewart of Fairview who retired after seiv ing on the County Committee for 13 years. John Mikkelson of Fountain Green will be the alternate committeeman. Kent joins Doug Olsen of Ephraim and Bruce Christenson of Gunnison on the County Commit - Drew Soderborg 1 the A turkey grower and cattleman from Moroni, has been elected as County Committeeman 1 Sterling Town will hold a public hearing to discuss making application to the Community Impact Board for the Acquisition of a BackhoeStorage Shed. The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. on February 19, 1998 and will be held at the Sterling Town Hall.
