Seeking descendants To the Editor: Plans are being made to hold a James Hansen Family Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, on August 21, 1999, but ve need to identify and contact all descendants of James and any of his three wives who had children (Sophia Hansen, born in Denmark in about 1832; Johannah Marie Domgaard, born Denmark on September 22, 838; Johanna Anderson, born in Sweden on January 4, 1845). James, along with two wives, was in the first company of settlers to Mt. Pleasant in early 859. He married his last wife in 1863. The first fiddlermusician in town, he organized the first orchestra, band, and choir; taught music and dance lessons; and sang whenever needed. He took his brass band to Fountain Green to meet Brigham Young and escort his company back to Mt. Pleasant. James was in 1 architect and contractor for the old North Ward Church which was torn down a number of vears ago. He built the home currently owned by Eva Stakeras well as the small home just east of it for his three surviving wives. When the brethren told him he needed to become a farmer, he moved his families three miles west of town. Fiddlers Green was named for him and his family this year. Funeral services will be held as mowing, there are still things you can do until the spring thaw. For instance, now is a great time to take steps to improve your land- scaping. You can use the dormant winter months to assist plants and shrubs that may require rejuvenation. In most cases, cutting the plant back to the ground and allowing new growth will rejuvenate your landscaping plants. However, to be most successful when rejuvenating a plant, one must cut the plant back over several years. To rejuvenate a plant or shrub, remove approximately one third of the mature stems each season. Older, larger stems can be cut back to ground level. Come spring, this type of pruning will stimulate new stem growth at ground level. Then, these new stems should be cut back at different lengths (back to the buds) to develop strong branches. The pruning process should be continued over three seasons, removing larger stems and cutting back new stems to develop the desired size and shape of shrub. Rejuvenation through pruning is primarily done on large shrubs. Shrubs that commonly respond well to this type of rejuvenation include Burning Bush (Euonymus). Forsythia, Honeysuckle, Ligustrum, Lilac, Mockorange, Privet, Oleander, Spirea, and Weigela.
