Manti girl will represent Sanpete County in Dairy Princess Pageant Nanette Sorensen will represent Sanpete County at the Utah Dairy Princess Pageant on Friday, February 19 in Salt Lake City. Nanette is a freshman at Snow College where she is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. She is a daughter of Morris and Sherry Sorensen of Manti. She is the Gunnison Valley Hospital Jan 20: A baby boy was born in the Gunnison Valley Hospital to Trisha Winn, Gunnison. He weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. Jan. 2 : A baby girl w as born in the Gunnison Valley Hospital to Joseph and Kjirsten Howe, Ephraim. She weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. Jan. 26: A baby girl was born to Russell and Taunya Otten, Centerfield. She weighed 8 lbs. I oz. 1 Fairview. granddaughter of Bernard and Irma Sorensen of Gunnison; Frank and Donna Flint of Promontory', Utah and of Emma Gleed of Brigham City, Utah. The 999 Pageant continues a tradition started in 1952. Pageant participants must be of high moral character, maintain a 2.8 GPA, and be woman between the ages j single of 17 and 15. The judging criteria includes ; based on personal interviews, on dairy knowledge, 5 on physical fitness, 15 on evening gown and 5 for answers to on- 30 25 1 1 stage questions. The State Dairy Princess re ; ceives a $2,000 scholarship and the Attendants each receive a $1,000 scholarship. During their reign, the women tour the state to educate Utahns about the dairy industry and general good one-ye- mftm nutrition. Throughout their reign they not only promote dairy' products, good nutrition and living healthy lifesty les, but they serve as positive role models for the youth of Utah. NOTICE TO LIVESTOCK OWNERS The Utah State Division of Wildlife Resources requests bids for grazing livestock on one unit of the Northwest Manti Wildlife Management Area, north of Fairview, one unit of the Southwest Manti Wildlife Management Area, and two units of the South Nebo Wildlife Management Area. Bids will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 1999, and should be sent to: Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, 1115 North Main St., Springville, Utah 84663 (fax ). The minimum acceptable bid will be $3.50 per Animal Unit Month (AUM). A Utah court has ruled that these few large credit unions have been operating outside the law. And bv not paying taxes on their retained profits - profits which are not returned to their members - these credit unions are g out schools and our children. Its also unfair to Utahs teachers, main of whom spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on school supplies as a result of tight budgets. It s a shame that a few rich credit unions are allowed to expand and build elaborate branches at the expense of the state school fund. These missing rev enues would be of great benefit to our underfunded schools. Finally, theres a question of basic equity: Is it right to tax one business and allow a similar business next door to pay nothing? We dont think so. It s time to divide the real credit unions from the pretenders.
