Show Messenger - Enterprise, Thurs., Aug. 25, 1977 the work is done. Supt. Ron Everett met with Gub in Ephraim this week. When one of us commented that it was questionable planning to open school on a County Fair day, Ron explained that the law requires that they set their calendar by a certain date. Prior to setting the date for the opening of school, they attempted to ascertain the dates of the fair, but were informed that the dates had not at that time been determined because contracts with rodeos and the carnival had not been finalized. Thus the opening of school was set and, unhappily, the fair dates came at the same time. Another conflict was the BYU Education Week, which takes some students (including my son, Kelly) to Provo on the day when they should register at high school. Thus, this writer is going to spend Thursday standing in line for him to sign up for classes, pay fees, get lockers, etc. Wow! What an opportunity! I plan to sign Kelly up for the toughest schedule hell ever have. I think Ill get him in chemistry, physics, advanced math, at least two classes in English, and any other tough subjects which I think he needs. Seriously, it will be kinda fun doing it again. Its been more years than I like to remember since I registered for high school. my Rotary by Max Call Coxs picture was pretty dark in last weeks LaVaun An Important Decision One of the most important decisions ever made concerning the education of Sanpete youth will be made in the next couple of months. Under consideration is a e building program that will have a lasting impact on education in our district for many years to come. Sensing the scope of the impact of the decision, the superintendent and the school board wisely elected to let the patrons of the district, those who would pay the bill, and those whose children would be affected, help in making that decision. To attain that citizen participation, the board scheduled a series of meetings this spring to acquaint people with the present status of our buildings. At these meetings, patrons were asked to recommend names of people to act on e a planning committee which would be representative of all communities and many other segments of the community. From those suggestions, the board appointed the committee and charged them with making an study of building status, needs, methods of financing, e and all other aspects of planning for building needs. Now, following recommendations made by the committee, the board has formulated a tentative plan which will be submitted to the citizens at a series of public meetings to be held soon in all communities in the district. A list of the time and places of these meetings is in another section of the paper. The purpose of the meetings, in addition to explaining k from the people. The the proposed plan is to get board is testing the proposal. They want to know how you feel about it. Do you approve? Disapprove? Would you modify the plan? How? It is obvious that if this objective is to be realized, the citizenry must attend these meetings in large numbers. Every person who will be affected by the decisions to be made, should clear his schedule for one of those nights. If It is impossible to attend the meeting in your own community, we urge you to attend in another community. Wherever you go, your attendance is essential. If a tentatively-schedule- d bond election is upheld by these meetings, you will need to be well informed in order to cast your vote intelligently. In addition, we would encourage an exchange of ideas in our Letters to the Editor" column. We welcome any and all opinions and urge you to either ask questions or submit ideas through this medium. Remember, however, that letters must be signed, although names may be withheld if for a good reason. We cannot publish any letter unless we have a signed copy of that letter in our files. The democratic system provides for a free exchange of ideas. Lets exercise that prerogative. long-rang- long-rang- th long-rang- feed-bac- Without advertising, you wouldnt know. v paper, and our faces are pretty red! Youd have to be in our shoes to really understand how it could happen, but in brief heres the explanation . . . When we paste up the paper, we leave a window in the negative where the negative of the picture is the last thing to be put on. In this particular case we (or I should say I because it was all my fault) simply overlooked putting it on. The press work on our paper is done in American Fork. Thus when we got our negatives there and on the press we discovered that we had left the picture off. With the picture still in Manti, it was impossible to do anything about it by that time, so we just had to swallow our pride and print the big black spot where the picture should have been. Sorry about that, LaVaun. Im glad it happened to a former publisher because he can understand how it could have occurred. LaVaun didnt chastise us, but to pacify some of his good friends who didnt like the way the picture turned out, printed below is the picture that should have been in the blank space. Even at the beginning the Clauss Shear Company, as it was then called, was an active business. In 1887, it moved to Fremont, Ohio to be near the vast supply of natural gas there. Within one year, it was producing 3,000 pairs of shears and scissors a day. Over the years, John Clauss traveled back to Solingen and to Sheffield, England, to bring in families of skilled workmen. Despite competition and a severe fire, the company prospered and grew. In the late 1800s Clauss received gold medals at a number of expositions and the 1901 catalog boasted: "... the most complete line of SCISSORS ever placed on the turned market by an committee that the President has violated Article IV of the U.S. Constitution which provides, The Congress shall have the power to dispose of, and make all needful Rules and Regulations, respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States. Disposal is a major portion of the Carter treaty. Money is also a factor in the treaty, but the Constitution expressly provides, No money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in consequence of Appropriations by law, meaning approval by both houses of Congress. So what kind of treaty is this. The 1. -- JOHN H. CLAUSS our ad manager, participated in a work project with his priesthood quorum early one morning this week. The new nation was recognized by the United States three days later, and by November 18 a treaty with the United States for the Canal Zone had been approved by the new government. The treaty granted the U.S. occupation, use, and control of the Canal Zone in erpetuity.' The purchase price was $10 million with annual fees of $250,000. The fee now has increased to the current rate of $1.9 million annually. In 1907 a joint announcement was made by the two governments U.S. and Panama - that draft treaties had been completed on a new price for occupation. Negative reaction in both nations precluded any progress towards ratification. Ten years have passed and the Carter Administration has an agreement on the Canal, but most of the details have been withheld from the Congress. Since the settlement was reached, sentiment in Congress is running against the new treaty because of a lack of for input from the House and the Senate. Hearings are underway in the Senate Subcommittee of on the Separation Powers chaired by Alabama Democrat James B. Allen and the ranking minority member. Senator Orrin G. Labor-savin- g you know some basic questions to ask yourself and your contractor. Before calling a contractor for advice, inspect your roof to see if you can spot the problem. If your leaky roof is the result of storm damage, and the damage is limited to one or two spots, the chances are good that you can patch the spots without installing a whole new roof. You might be able to tackle a small roof repair job without hiring a contractor. Three-ta- b asphalt shingles are available from many lumber yards, home improvement centers, hardware stores and department stores. The shingles may be cut to fit an area that needs patching. Manufacturer's instructions on the shingle package provide an easy set of installation directions. But a small, repair job is not the answer in all cases. If your roof is getting on in years (15 to 20 years old), and the leaks are the result of worn out shingles, then its time to think about hiring a contractor to install a new roof. The new roof for your house may not be as expensive as you think, though, especially if your roofing contractor installs shingles with heavy-dutroofing staples, driven into place by staplers, such as y ww w BULK HERBS y Price SUCH AS: American Red Ginseng powdered (rich m iron Chaparral powdered Juniper berries 194 West 2nd North Mt.
