Show Manti Messenger, Thursday, April Officials Attend 54th MANTI MESSENGER Annual Convention in Salt Lake Six-Coun- Tiss - l"5, BEST ASJ0 FEITURE Elected county officials from area (Juab, the Millard, Sanpete, Piute, Sevier and Wayne) just returned from attending the 54th annual convention of the Utah Association of Counties in Salt Lake City. This convention was held in that city on March 30 and Published every Thursday at Manti, Utah. It will include hikes up narrow canyons to the sites of Indian ruins. The trip is open to registered 0 and their Explorers ages adult leaders. Black, commissioner from San Juan County, presided over the meetings. The keynote address, primarily on the convention theme, was given by Mr. Dan C. Lynch, president. National Association of Counties, from Douglas County, Nebraska. Speakers in the opening general session included the Honorable Scott M. Matheson, governor of the state of Utah, and Mr. Glade M. Sowards, speaker, Utah House of Representatives. Governor Matheson specifically again pledged himself and his administration to support of local governments. Following the opening gen Governor Proclaims April as 17-2- 3 eral session, the various elected officials met in specific departmental sessions where discussions centered on topics peculiar to their own departments. These included social service delivery, double taxations, legislation affecting local governments, zoning problems, accounting systems, election law, law enforcement, etc. During the past year Leda Jenson, treasurer, Sevier County, has served as the lady vice president of the Utah Association of Counties. Others from the area who served on the board of directors of the association are: Ned P.
