Show Pilot Program Being Tested At Manti High School No More Corn On Cob? A to unique approach adulthood preparation for high at school students-develop- ed be the University of Utah-w- ill presented next week at a national conference in New York City. The program is being introduced this fall on a trial basis at Bountiful and Manti high schools in order to gain urban-rura- l comparisons. A year was spent in developing curriculum and methods of presentation. The program, called Explorations in Living, is being demonstrated this year at two high schools and is designed to ultimately become a national model. The project is a collaborative effort of the University Graduate School of Social Work and the State Division of Mental Health. Com production may be entering a new era if this tassel seed hybrid passes the stress tests. Its a long way down the road, but corn researchers at DeKalb AgResearch, Inc. believe they can boost com yields by 250 to 300 over current levels by moving the grain production site from ear to tassel. Com breeders have been limited as to just how much they can do with single ears on single plants. Tassel com is one dramatic example of how DeKalb breeders hope to achieve long term gains in the crops productivity. EVERY Thurs ., Fri., Sat., Oct. 16, 17, 18 Two University faculty members will make the presentation Wednesday, October 15, at a conference on Todays Family: Exploring the Possibilities" to be held at Teachers College, Columbia University. Conference participants from Utah will be Phyllis C. Southwick and Lou Ann B. Jorgensen, project director and mental health educationalist specialist respectively. Both are graduate school faculty members. The program emphasizes prevention rather than treatment of problems and incorporates mental health concepts related to adult living, which has been defined as major functions of community citizens. These include relation- ships, communications, self awareness, life stresses, finan Ephraim West Virginia Nielson Mr. cial management, community involvement and child care. e The program is being taught over a period by two previously trained high school instructors.
