There is the possibility of a Residential Care Facility moving into Manti. Mr. and Mrs. Olsen from Monroe presented to the Council their plan for such a facility which would accommodate about five ambulatory and mobile residents and three Type N (nursing) patients. The Olsens would live at the facility and, with a well-trainstaff, care for all of the residents needs. Don Cofer, Manti Beautification Committee Chairman, attended the meeting to tender his resignation. He has served for five years and feels that there needs to be new ideas brought forward to the committee. Manti City has received the Six County Beautification Award and it was felt that Mr. Cofers efforts on the Beautification Committee were certainly instrumental in helping the city earn that prestigious award. He was commended by the council and thanked for his work. Now that people are starting to think about cleaning up and clearing out their yards, the city is thinking about ways to help the citizens with this project. Trash pickup, as well as garbage pickup, is a needed service in any community that prides itself on its appearance. This is especially true this year since Manti has received the Beautification Award. There are several different ways trash pickup can be handled and the council is debating as to which would be the most useful and practical. The council feels that there needs to be input from the community regarding trash pickup and continued beautification efforts, as well as the ongoing problem of law enforcement in Manti. A town meeting to discuss these very important issues will be held April 17 at 8 p.m. in the City Auditorium. Among additional business items, it was noted that any changes in utility or service programs, line movements and that type of service required of the city by citizens, will be charged to the individual requesting the service and will require payment in advance unless otherwise granted by council action. Manti LDS Temple Brandon Lambert honored for heroic actions in runaway truck incident By Karen II. Buchanan Whereas, on certain rare oc- casions, an individual displays uncommon presence of mind and a willingness to place the welfare and safety of others above hisher own safety and welfare ... These words begin Resolution 960403, presented by the Manti City Council to Brandon Lambert, son of David and Angela Lambert of Ephraim, and end a remarkable story. On the afternoon of Thurs- day, November 9, Brandon was eating lunch at the Bright Spot in Manti when he and his companions spotted a runaway truck leaving a parking space on Main Street. A toddler, Kelsie Meacham, was in the truck alone and had shifted it into neutral, causing it to roll. The truck hit a car pulling into the cafe and changed direction, rolling toward the video store across the street. Buchanan The Sanpete County Clerk, who was appointed by the County Commission as County Records Officer, is charged with preservation of all kinds of records produced in the county for all county offices, including the amount of court case files. Several years ago, Clerk Kristine ever-growi- Anderson reported to the Commission that the County Building was running out of space, due to the burgeoning of records flooding into the office. In 1992, an initial study to add an extension to the County Courthouse to accommodate these additional records and to expand for additional office space was conducted by a citizens committee appointed by the Commission and an architect was consulted. The estimated cost was almost $350,000 which would be billed to the tax- County Courthouse. payers. This idea was quickly shelved. Is there ever enough space or money? A Records Management line item was added to the Clerks responsibilities and she began planning to make Sanpete County conform to the State Archives records retention program and thus solve the space problems at hand.
