The City Council approved the increase at their May 28 meeting. The increase covers only the amount by which Utah Power and Lights supplemental power bill to the city has increased, councilmen say. Meanwhile, the City is exploring the possibility of locating other sources of power or of achieving a more reasonable solution to increases UP & L has made in the citys power bill. As of May 31, Manti City and Utah Power and Light have no contract with each other regarding the supply of power to Manti. It was reported at the city council meeting that Utah Power and Light wants an offer from Manti on power rates for them to consider. The rise in rates provides for a new well rate of 35 mills, a residential rate of 40 mills, and a business rate of 50 mills, Manti City and the Manti Improvement Businessmens Association jiave reached a preliminary agreement concerning the rights to certain property located within the Manti Industrial Park.
