Bills were Introduced as follows: By Caxier To encourage cultivation of canalgre and the manufacture of leather in the state of Utah. A bonus of $1 per ton is provided for the first 2fioo tons of canalgre root pro duced In the state, and used in the manufacture of leather. A bonus of $10,-00- 0 will be given the first person or firm to sell $50,000 worth of leather tanned by canalgre root raised in- - Utah. By Bernheisel (by request) Creating and defining the powers and duties of Utah Slate Board of Agriculture, and fixing their compensation and revoking the charter of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing society. The bill provides for a board of seven members, elected one each from the seven agricultural districts into which the state Is divided by the bill. The first board, however, is to be appointed by the governor. The charter of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing society Is revoked, and all its books, papers and records are to pass to the newly-createboard. The board shall hold the "Utah State Fair" annually at Salt Lake City. Other duties are also imposed upon it, including the charge of farmers institutes. A secretary and treasurer are provided for to be employed by the board at a salary not stated. The state is districted as follows: First Disirict Counties of Rich and Cache. Second District Box Elder, Weber, Morgan and Summit. Third District Daves, Salt Lake and Tooele. Fourth District Utah and Wasatch. Fifth District Sanpete, Juab, Millard and Sevier. Senate The judiciary committee reported favorably on several bills. Senate bill No. 5, Glen Millers bill, relating to the law of libel, was reported will, amendments for passage. Other bills recommended by the committee were as follows: House bill No. 81, concerning legal holidays; House bill No. 80, for the relief of school district that have failed to levy a special tax; House bill No. 61, to amend the law concerning the redemption of property sold at tax sale; Senate bill No. 45, for the release of joint debtors, with amendments; Senate bill No. 44, to provide for seals for clerks of district courts and county clerks. McKay, from the committee on agriculture and irrigation, reported a su-stitute for Senate bill No. 13, to amend he law relating to irrigation companies, and it was ordered printed. The petition on this subject, Senate petition No. 19, was laid on the table on the recommendation of the same committee. Allison introduced Senate. bill No. 46, defining the duties of the attorney-genera- l and fixing his compensation. The age of consent bill, fixed at 18 years, was passed with but two dissenting votes.
