All State Staff Writer An athletic banquet in Magna last Wednesday honored the 2001 Cyprus High School varsity basketball team. The varsity Pirates achieved a 14-- 8 overall season record, 10 honorable mention honors went to Clayton Osborn and Jeff McCleve. Earning All Region 5 first team honors was Monty Rogers, while Clayton Osborn got All Region 5 honorable mention recognition. Holiday Prep Tournament championship in Las Vegas and a fatp Head coach Clyde Ahlquist announced that a pair of Cyprus Utah 4A high schools. Receiving Cyprus varsity basketball letters were five seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and one freshman. Senior letter-me- n were Monty Rogers, Clayton Osborn, Casey Miller, Jeff McCleve and David Austin. Junior lettermen were Seth Dickison, Chase Bauman and Greg Allen. Sophomore lettermen were Ammaron Wolfgramm, Kyle Huntsman and Chris Dilley. Forrest Ledbetter was the only freshman letterman. Clayton Osborn received the U.S. Navy Scholastic All American Award for superior academic and athletic performance. Monty Rogers was selected as a Utah All State player by the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper and received the Cyprus Most Men's Basketball coach Tommy Connor Youth presents Development Basketball Camps at Westminster College's Payne Gymnasium (1840 S. 1300 E.), June 11-1- 5, July basketball next season. Monty Rogers will be at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah and Clayton Osborn will be at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Statistical awards were presented to five Cyprus cagers in several categories. Monty Rogers led the team with 326 total points, 15.5 points per game, kl64 total rebounds, 7.8 rebounds per game, 25 total blocks and 1 shot block per game. Casey Miller led the Pirates with 23 of 39 and 67 Jeff McCleve percent shooting. snatched 39 steals this past season, averaging about two steals per game. Clayton Osborn set a new Cyprus High School record by sinking 87 percent of free throws by making 84 of 97 attempts. Osborn also led the team with two-pointe- rs s, nt excellent team contributions. The special award is named for Dean Reese, a Cyprus High School graduate that excelled in basketball and scholarship.
