Remember that the Healthy Communities Initiative Meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m.. at Brockbank Junior High in the Large Instruction Room in the Science Bldg. This meeting is scheduled to bring community groups and members together to work on health, safety, and other community issues that everyone has a stake in. It can help all unify the efforts, to identify problems in the community, focus on a few, and campaign together to overcome or at least improve them. SLCC, U of U announces honors transfer agreement ; In an effort to bring the institutions closer, Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah presidents today signed an honors transfer agreement. The agreement, reads "students graduating from Salt Lake Community College with honors status, which is a 3.5 GPA (grade-poin- t average) or higher, are automatically admitted to the University of Utah Honors Program." "We want to keep the very best and brightest students in Salt Lake," said SLCC President H. Lynn Cundiff at a press conference, held today at SLCC's Redwood Campus. "We want our institutions to be better intertwined." U of U President Bemie Machen agreed. "We anticipate this to be the start of a whole host of agreements between the institutions, Machen said. We recognize many outstanding students in Salt Lake. While many start here (SLCC), they have aspirations to continue their studies at the U. However, it's hard to get into our nationally recognized honors program if they don't start as a freshman. With this new agreement we're signing today, we're admitting them into our honors program. No other college than SLCC has this agreement." In addition to the SLCC graduates with 3.5 and higher on a 4.0 system. who will be notified of their admission to the University of Utah Honors Program, the honors transfer agreement includes the invitation to students who have a 3.4 grade-poiaverage to apply for admission to the program. The agreement also outlines needed courses for students to satisfy U of U requirements to graduate with an honors baccalaureate degree in their field. nt Meadowbrook Campus at 250 West 3900 South will open to limited general education and program classes.
