Show 4 The Magna TimesWest Valley News, Thursday, May 31, 2001 School Area junior High students receive awards from the Hunter Lions Six students from each Hunter and Kennedy Junior High Schools received awards from The Hunter Lions at their special awards assemblies. The Leaders of Tomorrow, awards are given each year by the Lions to two students, a boy and girl from each of the 7th, 8th and 9th grade, for their scholastic leader- achievement, citizenship, ship and moral character during the past school year. Kennedy Junior High student recipients were Sarah Brough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Brough; Tyler Watts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Watts; Lea Moe, daughter of Brenda Moe; James of son Yorgason, Nancy Yorgason; Lindsey Parry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Parry; and Tyler Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Benson. In presenting the awards. Bill Barton, Hunter Lions Club secretary, with Gary Smith, praised the students and encouraged them to pursue excellence in their future education. Barton commended all the students who were in attendance receiving awards for their various activities. Barton also presented the 2(X)1 Lions International Peace Poster Awards. Kennedy Jr. High 2nd Cameron Taylor, son of Jill Taylor; Shawnee Slade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Slade; Paul Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melanie Inskeep. Each of these winners received a $25 savings bond from the Hunters Lions Club. First place went to Nick Faust, son of Mike and Leasa Foust. Nick was presented with a check for $50 as winner of the Utah Lions District 28-contest and a Neal Peterson; Jamie Dangerfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dangerfield; and Otis Nelson, son of Linda Apple. Hunter Lions Club treasurer Billie Burke made the awards assisted by his wife Shirley. This award is given in the name of Mrs. Miriam Y. Farnsworth who has lived a life of service to the residents of the Hunter area. dignity and dedication, served the community in a variety of ways. In this capacity she offered her support and leadership to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our youth. Indeed, she exemplifies the qualities of the recipient of the award. While attending the review at Taylorsville High School, I also had the opportunity to visit several of Mrs. V's classes. I want to personally express my appreciation to them for sharing with me their intense and sincere honesty, their ability to show true character and their desire to strive to be benevolent and their personal desire and commitment to make this world a better place. If any one feels that we are not doing a decent job in the public education system, I challenge you to visit these remarkable individuals and try to beat this competition. I guarantee you will amazed and elated as to the caliber of young people that are being schooled in the public education system.
