Th untday, VOLUME 92 NO. 6 May 1 1, 2000 Nine candidates will compete for the Miss Magna crown June 9th at Brockbank Junior High by: GARY R BLODETT EDITOR Nine candidates will be competing for Ae title Miss Magna during the 2000 Miss Magna Beauty and Talent Contest to be held Friday, June 9, at Brockbank Junior High School auditorium. The nine girls, aged 17 and over, will be judged on beauty, talent, poise, scholarship and speaking ability. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Candidates are: Kiosha Smith, 17, daughter of Earl and Liza Smith. Her talent is singing. She enjoys singing, dancing and acting as well as hanging out with her friends. Her goal is to make a CD, be on Broadway and obtain a doctorate degree from college, majoring in Psychology. Kiosha is senior representative of drama and has performed in several play productions and competed in pageants where she won the title, Little Miss Mister Hawaii Tropic, and was overall beauty and Uaiversal Queen at Lacey Productions. Lea Smith. 17, is the daughter of Pree Pearce. Her talent is dance and. she wants to become an 9 CHS senior actress. The has performed in school stage productions and attended a modeling eoovention in California."";: Lea has danced since age 3, and her talent will be dance. She plans to attend Snow College. Lynnell Crosby, 18, is a daughter of fJ. and Karen Snyder. Her talent will be a ot ait She has been active in school drama and has been a lifeguard at local community swim pools. She is in die Student Whos Who 1999 Yearbook. Candice Dee Stowe, 17, is the daughter of Alan Lai. Her talent will be dance. Her goal is to graduate from high school knowing that I did my best, and to live life to its fullest every day. She enjoys dancing, roller blading, drawing, and having fun with friends. Angela Dee Day, 17, is the daughter of Sailie Day. She is a high honor student at Cyprus High after after achieving die same honors at Hunter Junior High School. She participated in honors classes throughout high school and earned academic honors in World Studies and English. She plans to attend college. She is active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Saints and Latter-da- y served a CHS Seminary president as a freshman; Seminary Academic Leader as a sophomore; and Seminary Group Leader has a junior. She is first counselor in die Laural Presidency of her home LDS Ward. Ginger Maria Romney, 17, is the daughter of Devlena Lakey and Steve Romney. She will dance as her talent. She said she would like- to major in Performing Arts in col lege and teach dance. As a sophomore and junior, she was a members of the CHS drill team, The Spinnakers. The team placed second in the State 4-- A dance. She plans to attend the University of Utah, majoring in competition. She served as treasurer last year. She was also a two-ye- ar pediatrics. Lynell likes sports, dance, and JHS Dance Company. member of the Brockbank Athea Tafi, 17, is a daughter of Arisona and Roleni Tafi. She will ting or perform a Polynesian dance. She plans to attend college and major in psychology while fur- -' thering her ambitions as a model and singer. She is a member of the National Honor Society and CHS Mixed Chorus and Show Choir. She was student body president of Brockbank JKS, student body vice president at CHS; Polynesian President for Multi-C'ultur- al Affairs; and Brockbank Seminary Class president. Lori Ann Smith, 1 7, is a daughter of Paul James Smith. She will play a trumpet solo as her talecL Her goal is to attend college for a masters degree in music and then return to Cyprus High School to teach band. She enjoys volleyball, soccer, sewing, band, and camping in the Uintah Mountains. She lettered three yean in soccer and competed this past year for die CHS Wrestlerrtts. Crystal Sanchez, 17, is the daughter of Rachel and Meliton Sanchez. She will performance! Mexican Hat Dance as her talent' She plans to attend college and have a career in nursing. Her hobbies are dancing, singing and reading. A junior at Cyprus High School, she maintains a 3.0 She says she enjoys dancand ing singing and studying more about die Hispanic Culture. Lynnell Crosby Cristal Sanchez Lea Smith Kiosha Smith Angela Dee Day Many workers turnout for Magnas Spring Glean-u- p Thanks to the Lakcridge 5 th ward, who had two eagle scout projects happening as well as a neighbor hood clean-u- p happening, quite a few local homes, were assisted in hauling off trash for this years clean-uScouU and priest hood mean gathered for a breakfast and p. then headed out in groups with two larger trucks. Dub Richards, former councilman and board member of the Forthright Foundation who helps sponsor the project arranged for free passes to the dump for trash. Dub also took debris youth workers to clean-u- p crowd die Reams shopping center. Reams has helped with providing refreshments for workers in the project for die last several years. After the work there was a nice barbecue at the park for whoever wanted to attend. Thanks to all who made the clean-u- p possible this year.
