An initial look at some of Richards activities seems to reveal only that hes busy. He played varsity football for his high school, runs on its track c team, is a member of its debate team, and is vice president of his senior class. He is an Eagle Scout and holds Scoutings Duty to God award. Much of his spare time is spent as a volunteer at American Forks training school, where he assists the handicapped children in numerous ways. Sterling Evans, who has been county derk for the past 15 years is not running this year and expresses his full support for his deputy Hindley, who is well qualified to assume this responsibility. Hindley plans to build cm and continue to improve service to the public which has been a hallmark of the derks office under Evans. He also states that in spite of the substantial increase in volume they have endeavored to maintain the same courteous, effident service for all of the public, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. Hindley pointed out that one of the major responsibilities of the derks office is supervising the complicated machinery of county, state, and federal elections. There are 708 voting districts and more than 300,000 voters in Salt Lake County. The derks office also serves as derk to the Third council.
