Show I Why Logan I G. 0. P. Lost I J. A. Hendrickson Gives 1 Conclusive Statements. H Editor Republican: H Many and varied have been I the guesses on the cause of the fall-down of the greater part of the Republican tickdt at our re-I re-I cent city election. In my view, many of the guesses are incor- rect and the ONE MAIN REA- " SON IIAS BEEN OVERLOOK- ED. I The country as a whole during I the past years of Republican ad- ministration , has been execed-I execed-I ingly prosperous. Never before I was it so prosperous. "Crops I liave been good and business I conditions sound." Our state ad- ministration no one could well I complain of with some few local I exceptions. Now Ithat the clec- tion is over and men are them- selves, I doubt any real com-I com-I plaint can be made at the pres- cnt city government. The much I talked of "$22,000.00 overdraft" I before Ithe year is over will be paid and some money left in tho treasury. Tho city will begin tho new year with a little money on hand and next years taxes ti meet nexit year's demands. True, the taxes in our city r ft wcre n ''tt'c 'n'Sner tls yenri but when an electric liglit user con-1 con-1 aiders the price of lights here t with 'that of any other city in tho state, I can not believe any intelligent in-telligent voter would change his vote on that account. Some complaint has been made with the method of conducting the campaign. I do not believe any justifiable cause can here be found. The chairman chair-man and the city committee, with probably one or two exceptions, certainly did their .work well. Some votes wore not polled, but the weather wns very fine and many were on the farm and others oth-ers out of town. There were "grievances among some of our own boys," but this' was more than made up by Ithe "support Ave received from the Colleges and votes from the common enemy." i THEN WHAT WAS THE CAUSE? Hero it is as I see it. ; During tlie month of October previous to the election, our City Council wcro considering tho propriety of increasing the li- censo of five business houses of J. the city from $900.00 to $1200.00 per annum. This amendment had - passe'd its second reading and awaits its third, when with the Continued on Pago 7. |
