Show A SOUTHERN VIEW. Mt Plcasan: Pyramid: Governor Cutler did the proper thing when he turned down the proposition to call a special session of tho State Legislature Legisla-ture for tho purpose of framing an amendment to tho constitution providing pro-viding for tho consolidation of the State University and the Agricultural Agri-cultural College. The question of consolidation Is too large an one to be settled olHiand, without thorough, far reaching Investigation and the short period of time which would Intervene between a special session and the time for a vote on tho question would not permit of that. And the undue haste, which was being dlsplajed by the advocates ad-vocates of special session In Itself was almost sutllclent reason for further delay; it looked altogether too suspicious suspi-cious as though somebody was trjlng to cram something down somebody else's throat without allowing said somebody else to know the why and tho wherefore. It smacked of snap Judgment and a disposition to ride roughshod over everybody and thing fairly or unfairly. As this paper sees tho consolidation question now It Is opposed to any such move, but it confesses con-fesses to a lack or siiillclcnt knowledge on the question upon which to form Qnal and correct conclusions. It supposes sup-poses u great majority or the people of tho state would be found short on information in-formation on tho subject Just as It Is, at tho present time. Papers in the North aio telling that a noticeable about-face occurred in some quarters in Salt Lake on the question. They claim It was beoiuso of a threat from their section that every dollar of patronrigo possible to control would be diverted I from Salt Lake If special session I and consolidation talk at the capital city continued. That touched some' Salt Lakers in a tender spot and they Hopped. j |
