Funerml At Tabernacle In tho death of James Quayle, who died early Tuesday morning at his homo In the First ward, Logan Is cafled upon to Ti-trt with one ot her most highly1 respected and honored citizens. In tho death of this good man, n pioneer, known for good everywhere, ev-erywhere, has left tho community which ho has dono so much to holp build having come hero in 18S9 and has resided here slnco that time. James Quaylo has been growing weak for several months, duo to a complete wearing out. While ho has not been confined to his bed ho has been troubled trou-bled considerable of late with sinking spells and his family has been rather rath-er looking for his early passing away. Ho has been qui to active ot lato i about his homo and in Monday took a ride about the farm In company with ono ot his sons. Upon retiring remarked re-marked that he had not felt belter for weeks. About 6 a. m. on Tuesday Tues-day the family was called to the bedside bed-side of Mr. Quayle as another ot his sinking spells bad come over nlm. Ho revived but died a few minutes later, about 5:35 Tuesday morning. James Quayle was born In on tho Islo ot Man, July 1C, 1831. Ho came to Utah by wfly of Now Orleans Or-leans and settled near Salt Lako In 1853. His first public servlco came In assisting tho Bottlers defend tholr homes against tho Invasion ot Johnson's John-son's Army. In 1851 ho married Miss Elizabeth Gllllons of Farmlngton rnd ' to this union was born five Children, ' throe of wiora yet llvo. They are: Jamos W. Quayle, ono of Logan's successful suc-cessful msrehanis; John Qua)le, a prosperous farmer nnd stock -alser pt this city, and Philip Quaylo of Porry Utah. His wife Elizabeth died In 18C3 and ho later married Miss Margaret Clegg , She lator died and ho married Sarah Bull who also passed away. To neither neith-er of(these wles wero any children born. tHo then married Annlo Little-fair Little-fair to whom was born ono child, William L. Quaylo of the Soventh ward and a member ot tho U. A. C. faculty. Upon tho death of this wife he married Uettlo Larsen, his present wife nnd to this union has been born two children, Joseph L, and May, 17 and 14 years respectively. Tho life of James Quaylo in Cacho valley has been spent In demotion to temple work and tending to his farming farm-ing Intorosts. He was master carpenter carpen-ter of the Logan temple during IU con structlon as well as of the Logan tabernacle, tab-ernacle, and has been a templo worker work-er slnco its construction until about a e(tr ago. Ho has had a remarkable ltallty, and through his hard labor and determination as acquired vast 'holdings in the way of lands In and near tho city. He was ono of tho or-, ganlzers ot tho First National Bank and Is vice president ot that Institution. Institu-tion. James Quaylo was ono of tho first mayors ot Logan City and was honored hon-ored by the citizens horo at tho 'tlmo ot breaking the ground for tho street car system, by holding tho plow for turning tho Ilrst sod. Ho lias served on tho city council nnd has held numerous nu-merous ecclesiastical positions, at the present tlmo being a member of the High Priests quorum. No man In tho community has boon approached more for good common sense advlco than has tho deceased. His friends are many and it perhaps can bo sttld without contradiction that ho did not havo an enemy. Funeral services will bo held in tho Logan tabornaclo on Sunday at 12 o'clock, July 8. |
