Show ALEXANDER STALKER DIES Salt Lako City, March 16. Alexander Alex-ander Stalker, n Utah and Idaho' pioneer, pi-oneer, died nt his home 216. south Fifth KaBt street, yesterday afternoon of general debility. Mr. Stalker was born In Galloway, Scotland, Nov. 21, 1829, nnd came to America In 1847, coming to Utah thrco years later. Ho made his home In Salt Lake City and followed tho trado of cabinet maker. Before coming to this country coun-try ho was employed In shipyards u3 a builder and carver. Ho worked on a number of buildings build-ings In Utnh, among them being the state house at Fillmore. Mr. Stalker was a member of nn expedition sent to Tooelo county to put down an Indian upraising, and nlso took an active part against the Indians of Idaho. He mOved to that stato In 1860, settling at Franklin, one of .Uc first settlements of that state. At one time be was sent to visit a band of GOO hostile Indians In the Interests of peace nnd succeeded In holding them In check until tho arrival ot troops. - Mr. Stalker left Idaho in 1904 and returned to Salt Lake. Ho retired from business and made his home at the late residence. He Is survived by 11 children living In Utah and Idaho. In the latter stato Mr. Stalker was twice a member of the legislature and heldsovcral county and municipal municip-al offices. . Tho funeral services will ."be held at tho residence of Mrs. Alvlra I lend-licks lend-licks In Richmond,. Tuesday aftei-noon aftei-noon at 1 o'clock. Interment will bo made In tho Richmond cemetery. |
