Show Noisy Fish. Many fish can produce musicai sounds. The red gurnard has earned the name of sea-cock from the crowing crow-ing noise which it makes, while another an-other species is called the piper. Others, notably two species of ophi-dium, ophi-dium, have sound-producing apparatus, appara-tus, consisting of small, movable bones, which can be made to produce a sharp rattle. The curious "drumming" "drum-ming" made by the Mediterranean fish known as the maigre can be heard from a depth of thirty fathoms. |
