Show FIREMEN'S EXCURSION. On Tuesday, the 23d inst., the mammoth excursion from Salt Lake, under the auspices of the firemen of that place, rolled into this city at half-past two in the afternoon. the excursionists numbered about 900 in all, having to be conveyed in 21 cars. On the arrival of the train at Ogden from Salt Lake city, it was found there were not cars enough on hand to convey them to this point. Consequently they had to telegraph to have some more brought along, on the arrival of which they were enabled to resume their journey here. This made them late on their arrival, but not so much considering. The scene at the depot prior to the arrival of the train, was of great interest. Teams from all parts had been employed that day, and were in readiness at the depot to convey the excursionists to the different places. There were as many if not more people waiting for the visitors to this place as there were those who came. On the arrival of the train there was a great commotion; people meeting and greeting one another, while the teams were being filled with folks who were conveyed to the residences of their relatives, friends, etc. Olsen's band accompanied the excursionists to this place; performing some spirited music, both on the cars and during their stay on this city. We were agreeable surprised by their gathering around this office on Wednesday afternoon and serenading us with some lively tunes. Their rendition of the different pieces performed was highly commendable, and, considering their limited number, they are subjects of much praise. The members are talented, and the variety of instruments in the band have been judiciously selected. It is said that this excursion was the greatest that has ever come to this city, and more than that, the greatest that has ever run over the Utah Central or Utah & Northern. |
