Show JOHN HOWARD PAYNE'S GRAVE. An extract form a letter dated at ???, A??, from an American gentleman to his father, an old retired banker of New York, states: "Remembering, I suppose, your ancient fondness for "Home, Sweet, Home," and ??oding the grave of its author, who is buried here, rather dilapidated, I requested Mr. J. P. Wilkinson, the American Vice Consol (who is an Englishman, about as nice a fellow as I know, and in the absence of our Co??, Mr. Fish, is most attentive to us), to have it entirely reinstaled? reinstated? And he yesterday brought me the estimates. I have given the order, and all will be put in such conditions as to stand for the next fifty years at least, when some of my children or grandchildren must come here and continue the good work." |
