Show The Angell Orchestra. Those who attended the theatre on Saturday evening last, could not, it seems to us, have failed to appreciate the music of the Angell Orchestra. They rendered that difficult piece of music, the "Suppe Medley Overture," in a very artistic manner and one which proved that the members of the orchestra have a degree of talent as musicians that only needs practice to render them proficient, and, considering the short time that has passed since their organization and the limited time they have had for practice, their progress is surprising and most praiseworthy. The orchestra has been trained by its leader, Mr. T. O. Angell, Jr., who has been very zealous in that labor, and to his indefatigable efforts is largely due its progress. As a violinist and quick reader of music, he ranks among the best in our Territory, which is saying a great deal. He plays first violin. The cornet is played by Bertie M. Larsen, who is making rapid progress, as is also Mr. E. A. Stratford, who plays the flute. Mr. John Ash, Jr., plays second violin and Mr. Joseph Al???son, plays the cello. The latter is a veteran musician, having played the same instrument he now has for over 41 years. If the Angell Orchestra continue their present rapid rate of improvement, we shall soon hear from them some angelic music. Positively no pun intended. |
