Show SUDDEN DEATH. On Saturday morning, an old man named Stephen Pope, was found dead at his home in the Tenth Ward. He is about 60 years of age, and lost his wife some six months ago. Since that time he has grieved considerably, and has shown but little energy - so little, that he has existed merely on the kindness of thoughtful neighbors. On Saturday morning, Mr. John Kirkman went to the old man's house, on his usual charitable errand of supplying him some comforts, when he found Pope lying near the corner of the house, outside. Mr. Kirkman lifted him up, but life was extinct. He had probably been dead for some time. A corner's [coroner's] jury held an inquest and returned a verdict of death from natural causes. He will be buried by the City Sexton. - S. L. Herald. |
