Show The British government is giving mild warning to its subjects, in relation to Utah and polygamy. A late dispatch from London says: Attention having been drawn by the recent extensive departures form Liverpool of "Mormon" converts, owing to proselytizing offers made by professors and elders of that faith, Major Greig, head constable of Liverpool, has issued a notice by way of warning, reciting that there is reason to believe that the system of soliciting persons to join this faith and emigrate to America extensively prevails; and reminding such persons that by the American law polygamy is prohibited; and those who practice it are liable to heavy fines and long terms of imprisonment. |
