Show THE SEARCH for the "Elixir of Life" must not now be considered hopeless. We have something better than the Philosopher's Stone, because Prof. Nevil Story-Maskelyne of the Minerals Department of the British Museum, writes to the Times announcing the entire success of Mr. J. Ballantyne Hannay, of Glasgow, a Fellow of the Chemical Society of London, in producing diamonds. He says Mr. Hannay sent him some crystallized particles presenting exactly the appearance of a broken diamond, and these fragments easily scored deep grooves in the polished surface of a sapphire. Mr. Hannay's process will soon be announced to Royal Society. |
