C. Hogenson for the Utah gricultural College and the U. S. Department of Agrcul-turis attracting the attention not of only the boys and girls and teachers of the State, but also the people of the State as a whole. Today too many of the young men and women leave the farm and the homeland go into other really less attractive and less remunerative occupations because farm' and home work is not understood and appreciated. To acquaint the boys and girls with the best methods of farm . and home work, so that they may: get the pleasure and profit out of it. Incidentally also, - the fathers and the mothers get inspiration from their sons and daughters so that they algo adopt the latest and best methods. If there is anything that will arouse the boys and girls, the- fathers and mothers to action and to do their best ip all that they undertake, it is the club work. There is now an active enrollment in the boys and girls club work of 9200 boys and 8875 girls, making a total of 18,073. There are 125 a boys clubs and 128 girls clubs. These clubs are distributed over 20 counties of the State. The boys in the various lines of work grow under definite in struction from the Extension Division of the Agricultural acre of the College, one-ha- lf in the poultry and product, three hens must work at least be set and instructions followed in rearing the chicks. The girls must make during the summer 25 loaves of bread, while the girls in the flower garden work must plant and care for a garden containing at least 108 square feet, must have a definite color scheme anc arrange the plants so that each plant gets its proportionate amount of space and sunshine. This girls work will lessen materially the amount of sour, indigestible bread made in the State, and cause many home grounds to produce flojvers where only weeds grew before, besides giving the girls practice and experience in the house and out of doors. The boys work will ultimately bring into the State thousands of dollars and will cause the boys and fathers to become more and more interested in TRI-WeEKL- JOURNAL Y compete with the four boy and giri winners from the other lo- cal clubs in the county for local prizes, and those winning in the , county compete with the win- -' ners from all other countie&Jn the state for state prizes award- - j ed at the time the State Fair is held in Salt Lake City each fall.
