NOTES DEMOCRATS OF BYRUM CITY The Politicians And Candidates Are Getting Organization Effected, Delegates Named and Busy. Officers Nominated. A FEW As the time for holding the conventions draws near, the activity of the politicians and for office becomes more apparent. This is particularly true of the Republican side of the house where there is something of a scramble on for places on the ticket. On the Democratic side there are plenty of aspirants, but they are not quite so active. It is pretty generally conceded that Senator A. G. Barber will be by the Democrats, but who his running mates will be is hard to say. Frank Nebeker is hanging back like a balky horse, and it looks as if the party will have to issue positive orders in his case, if he goes upon the legislative ticket. Melvin Ballards business interests wonJt let his run for anycan-didat- es thing. , It looks as if theShrievalty nom- ination on the Democratic side contested for by two good'1 Democrats Sam Evans Lew iston and N. State Engineer Tanner was in town on Tuesday for the purpose of inspecting the new measuring -- weirs placed in the Logan river Canals. Mr. fanner is desirous of adjudicating the Logan river water-rigM- s as won as possible, and is therefore keeping track of the preliminary preparations. Engineers Jenson and McLaughlin, of the A. C., under whose direction the weirs were built, and representatives of the local papers, accompanied Mr. Tqnncr in his tour of inspection, lie seemed very much, pleased with the construction, and expressed his approval of the new weir gate, invented by Professors Jenson and McLauglilip, and which will be patented by them. This gate is very easily operat-e- d and possesses this virtue sediment, sand and gravel are wSshed from the 6ilT of the gate, insuring a level watertight bed for the bottom of the gate, without the trouble of getting into the water and cleaning off the sill every time it is desired to lower the gate to take a measurement. Mr. Tanner returned to Salt Lake City yesterday morning. -- A CALL fOR PRIMARIES A call is hereby made for priMeetings will be held as follows maries of tl& Democratic Party of Dispels 1 and 2 in Sixth ward Logan precinct, to convene on meeting house. Johnson Eliason, departed this life September 9, 1906, after a lingering illness of nearly a year, siie was horn January 11, 1890, and was therefore in her 17lh year. The immediate cause of death was heart-trouband dropsy. She was of a patient, affectionate disposition, and beloved by all who knew her. Cut down in the budding flower of her womanhood, it was a severe blow on her family and friends. Her sorrowing mother and father, sisters and brothers, who so patiently nursed - le and watched her during the many months of patient suffering, have the deepest sympathy of the community. - The funeral was largely attended, and appropriate and consoling remarks were offered. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, We were pleased to note the visit to our last party in the opera house, of such distinguished visitors as Superintendent of Logan Schools, Cardon, Dr. Morrell and sister, Carl Garif, and others who seemed to enjoy the company of some of the leading young ladies of our city. The London visit was designed by Mr. Frohman for only a fortnight, hut Mr. Colliers overwhelming personal hit held him there far nd that limit. The Ameri- can legation, although not the direct object of the planned outrage had a narrow escape from being blown up by the Finnish refugee revolutionists who were arrested here September 22 and was only saved by the timely arrest of tho conspirators. It appears that the latter intended to rob theState bank, occupying part of the same premises I as the legation. The Finns had planfietf first to empty the vaults of the bank, then raze the building with dynamite, fifty pounds of which wore found in their possession. The men arrested declare that the attempt will be repeated by others.
