jefferson ian democracy jacv and commend the tion of grover cleveland as an exemplification ein alifi cation of those principles we commend the democratic administration for the earnest manner with which it undertook tile the almost hopeless task of redeeming the he country from its do dc preb sion and righting 0 tile the wrongs of republican tariff financial and force bill legislation we corn commend mend tho the democratic party larty for the persistence with which it t fought the sugar trust and other protected infant industries of the republican party we coni commend mend the present administration for its fearless arrest and adrai arraignment of armor frauds pension frauds and other frauds and for comi compelling P ellin 0 these overfed republican favorites who have grown fat at tire public crib to disgorge sonic some of their ill rotten ZD gains we commend the prompt repeal of the federal election law so that partisan hirelings under guise of governmental yo authority may no longer invade the various states and interfere in their local elections TAX we commend without reservation the democratic income tax now a law which places a 1 yearly assessment of two per cent on tl that bat part of the incomes of persons or corporations that exceeds annually by this tax the masses of t the lie people will be relieved of tho the payment of some a year in taxes on oil the common necessaries of life which taxes have now been transferred to and will be paid from the superfluous incomes of the rich we call the attention of the whole people to the fact that the republican party joined hands bands with the forces of centralized wealth in an attempt to defeat this J just and equitable tax this tax is only the beginning of the democratic policy of compelling 0 the wealth of the nation to pay a fair proportion of the expenses of government and we reiterate the d declaration ecla ration made in convention one year ago that we encourage the people to stand by their colors and never relax their efforts until the burdens of unequal taxation shall have been lifted from the overburdened back of labor and more equitably distributed among the wealthy the luxurious and the idle classes of focient society v we rejoice in the returning prosperity of tha people and hail with satisfaction tho the news from every section of this country that factories foundries mills and which republican administrations have persistently denied them 2 for F or the defeat of the effort of colorado republicans to dump the colorado utes upon the public lands of utah V 3 F for or the law which opens the indian reservation of utah to actual settlers thus increasing 0 tile the wealth of the territory many in millions of dollars 4 1 I for the generous provision made by the government 7 out of these lauds for the A agricultural ri cultural college and the university of utah 5 for the bill which restored to the church of jesus christ of latter day saints nearly half a million dollars in personal property to the government under the edmunds tucker let I 1 we congratulate the lie people of utah upon the attention and consideration shown them by president cleveland 1 in abolishing 0 the old republican system of anakin making t reli religious I 1 bious belief a basis for official 1 appointments 2 in placing a latter day saint in the office of secretary of the territory another 6 upon tho the utah commission another upon the bench of ua till and others in minor positions of trust truss and honor 3 3 0 in fi filling 0 all appointive offices with bona fide residents and taxpayers of the territory 4 1 in signing 0 the statehood enabling act immediately upon its presentation to him notwithstanding in n claims made by republicans that the people of the state ho be wa democratic legislature 2 for attempting to abolish the normal department of the university in order to prevent the training of homebred home horne bred teachers and thus to compel the employment of non residents iu in our district schools 3 for the partisan folly of the attempts made by that legislature 0 to divert the school moneys moneys thus taken from our institutions of learning 0 to the
