to establish and preserve and which have been embodied in the platform adopted by the democracy in their national conventions we believe in a c ariet construe construction of the constitution the peoples g t grant arit of power to the federal government over n t to the end that the rights right 0 of the respective states may ay be preserved that local self govern ment may be secured and that personal liberty may ile be exercised to the fullest extent consistent with the lie public safety we believe in wise economy in in public expenditures that officials should be held to a strict accountability or their acts that the employment ent of the taxing power in any form by which the few are entitled to the impoverishment of the many by which trade is destroyed or obstructed by which trusts are created and fostered anti and monopolies sustained is a wicked perversion of the powers designed in fur for the common mon good we believe in roni commercial mercial and industrial freedom ani and resent all attempts to prevent tits lits exercise in the promotion uro motion of education by the state in the full development of our national resources in the alie encouragement co coura ura gement and advancement of home industries in the protection of labor from tile the encroachments encroach ments of capital ind and in equal rights to all special privileges to none we demand the passage of a law for tile free and unlimited coinage of both silver and gold at a ratio of I 1 to tn 16 without waiting 0 for the consent of any other n nation and that the government shall pay out silver to io i o coined as a money of ultimate redemption the tame as gold we commend the democratic congress and administration for the measures of reform which they have succeeded in effecting by which hundreds of millions of dollars will be annual annually lv saved to american consumers and all classes of people will be benefited in the arran arrangement 0 eident of tariff duties we favor such buch adjustment as will operate equally throughout m the country and not discriminate as between classes classe or sections we contend that such duties as are laid on foreign imports should hould be levied for revenue only onla as contemplated in the national constitution we emphatically disapprove of the course of those democrats who by combining with the republicans thwarted the expressed will of the people in reference to the tariff and prevented the restoration of silver to its right place as is money we eri endorse dorse the income tax prevision of the tariff law by in aich a more equitable distribution is made of the burdens of taxation and wealth as well as want is required to contribute its hare to the public expense we endorse the acts of the democratic Con congress 0 ress and administration I 1 in n abolishing the he oppressive and anti american federal election laws ind thus securing 0 freedom to citizens at the polls in so go revising the pension lists that the frauds which have robbed the treasury of vast sums s ms of money will be prevented in future while no worthy pensioner will be deprived of the aid to which his ier ber i er vices are entitled in restoring 0 to a religious D ious oran or organization C an in utah its personal property which was confiscated the provisions of law with the prospect of the future restoration of the real estate also es cheated in the appointments which have been made of actual residents of the territory to public office many of them native to the soil of utah a policy alt altogether oether diffrient from that of republican administrations I 1 in throwing iNing open to settlement the uintah and uncompahgre ie ions by which a vast acca of tillable grazing and mineral lands will he be utilized by white libor labor kind and skill and be added to the wealth of utah in passing an enabling 0 act by I 1 which utah may enter th thy e union 1 as a free and sovereign state on lin an requal equal foo fooling hilll with the existing states for this utah owes a debt of gratitude to the democratic congress and president whose kind treatment of this territory stands out in striking a contrast to that harshness and enmity extended by republican congresses and admi administrations n for thirty years we are proud of our delegate to loi congress lion ilon J L rawlins to whose fidelity perserver ence and splendid political tact and energy the numerous measures of I 1 legislation eo igla so beneficial to utah have been obtained his afis unparalleled success has demonstrated to the people of af utah that they made no mistake in sending him to the national II 11 legislature 0 where lie he was decoo recognized g nihed as the peer of his associates and a man of mark and ability we denounce the republican party for its obstruction to thoe remedial medial le measures demanded by the he country to rescue trade indus try ry and business from the chaos nto into which they were driff drifting ing through republican legislation and misrule for attempt attempting in to foist the blame upon the democratic party parly for the effects of republican adain admin administration i stra by the of silver and the unconstitutional and partial system of class protection the masses of the people have been impoverished ed the agricultural agi cultural and laboring elates oppressed and the land disturbed by the riots of dissatisfied workmen and the cries of tile unemployed we point to the only republican legislature 0 of utah as a sample of ta the incompetency partisanship and folly which that party would exhibit if placed in power in the new otate it attempted to deprive the public schools of one six sixth th of the revenue essential to their support refused to sr rant nace sEary funds for the university the agricultural college collece and other public institutions of an educational and reformatory character tried to appropriate large sums of public money as bounties for favored private indu industries did make expenditures for which no revenue was provided drafted memorials to coarr congress i ss containing tain inc errors of fact and fallacies in principle resorted to evasion of luty and political trickery which were di disgusting asting usting to onlo onlookers and madeth made the e assern assembly a laughing hin stock to the public we appeal to the people of utah to adhere to the principles of the party which has endured since fince the nation was founded and to see fee to it that the coming L state shall rest upon the broad foundation of those doctrine which the father of dem promulgated we demand that the constitution of the new state shall be framed on a nonpartisan non partisan basis shall provide for the equal protection of all law abidin abiding citizens citizen we demand that economy shall rule in all branches of the public service service that public mone money hall be expended only for public uses and that no class of the community shall be
