Show SUNDAY SERVICES rela held in the salt lako lake tabernacle Tater nacle july 31 1892 by far the smallest congregation of this summer was waa at the tabernacle 01 on sun sunday day last but the sermon was interesting inter eting and during all the time that elder roberts robert spoke tho the congregation 0 0 was very still and very attentive elder roberts showed very good taste in confining his sermon to such a short space of time as the build building dg was very warm and the out outside de sunshine was very inviting the choir sang two hymns and the anthem awake my soul in ill which mr george paper and mrs irs agnes bihon on thomas were soloists B D it II DISCOURSE E the daily newspaper reports that we have brin bring 11 to tile thou thoughtful assurance that the world stan stands ds in need of the gospel to set let it right I 1 heard lately from a good 0 authority that thai there are arc over 1 passing over the faloon aloon counters count erg every year when one contemplates tile thu effects of the stimulants that this money pays for he be can readily realize that the gospel with the warn of against drinking should be preached to lo the world and preached widely cut but this is only one of the evils that at present environ the children of men among other ti thiap lings there Is is a aisea disease ke now manifesting itself which threatens to cat out the bowels of this the grandest country on lin the face of tl the globe in idaho and pennsylvania we have had bad disturbances which it is true have not been of a very serious nature but which are the symptoms of alie most mortal disease that lias has already affected the vitals of this commonwealth if there is ie one thing 0 more than another that this his at age c will be held accountable for it will bo be for the accumulation of the wealth in the liandi hands of the few in this country tho the private fortunes of some of our citizens far ou the fortunes fort unea of kings and potentates in days pone el one by and these immense fortune z have hake been mostly accumulated in the lat thirty years y such immense fortunes are very potent as was recently shown in in pennsylvania where without any regard for the powers of the officials elected to preserve peace a large body of armed men were brought 0 in by a private cor horation po ration to do police duty to resist tile most puissant pos sessoms of such fortunes tho work in ingman nien are organizing M into mutual aid associations and into labor associations all of which are desi designed ned for such resistance and these associations ciati ons have brought t in even cven vio lance to assist them to a successful resistance inthis if this conflict between the employer and the employee continues one does doeg not feces necessarily haffly need to be clear sighted ted to see KG that we are promised a conflict in the near future that will so far outrank the late civil war that the latter will be a as a summer breeze to a c cyclone y clone the questions presented by the warring of interests have been puzzled over by st statesmen and philosophers and reconstruction has been tried in france G ferniany and other countries but the Irol problem ilein has proved too abstruse ob for all who have grappled with it the reason is that these men have not arceo recognized 0 that it is a world that ims has gone wrong r and it in will ill take the wisdom and power of a most potent god to right 1 tho the conditions that prevail the socialists that have bave risen up believe that a cliant changed ne LI condition would rig right all the wrongs that are now in the world or if changed 0 con conditions editions did not right all wrongs 0 there would be a change for tins the better in the conditions of Dian mankind kind rut but thoc thoi c who ire are acquainted with irith the doctrines of jesus recognize nize that it is not only the conditions that should be dilall changed but that the nature of man illan should be changed 11 so lie can recognize the condition of himself and his fellow creatures crea and the remedy for the condition aud arid so ile he will be enabled enable d to intelligently grasp the portent 0 of f an any y new movement that may come up the gos gospel pel very plainly presents a panacea for the evils evil wit with it which wo we are surrounded in this day that panacea is individual righteousness cou 31 jess for when the individual become ri righteous libeous lite ous there is is a general individual righteousness and and this affects tile the governments and conditions I 1 believe that the ancient prophet 11 understood the real value of righteousness co when he said baid that ri righteousness alil 1 I ness will raise rais e the nation while sin will bear it down if each man possessed righteousness n ess and if he possessed th the christian virtues if each man loved his boig neighbor libor as himself and looked to the advancement of those who surrounded undid jim him instead A afif always looking to his aggrandizement then these difficulties which are arc but the symptoms of a universal disease would riot not exist tile the wages to bo be paid labor would lie be ada adjusted u s te I 1 of themselves no man would think of tile strikes on tile the one land hand and the lockouts on oil tile the other dut but the gospel also recognize that conditions have much to du do with wi th a mans action ac tiong and it boeg on the doctrine of the old apostle who said make me not rich lest I 1 lie bo tempted to lie bo proud make inake me not poor lest I 1 be tempted to steal from abo those who are rich recognize rec ing that there is a happy medium and that there is ia pleny plenty on the earth for all men it recognizes that there is no excuse for the tide im mcgeo fortunes on the one hand and the depths of poverty on the other hand the ideas of the so ao called mor ifor mons will carry the people of the earth into the state of this happy medium because the church is I 1 M teaching the doctrine today to day that all should be dedicated to the lord and that we should consider ourselves as ag ibis servants and stewards on the earth whose duty duly it is ia to vise use our talents that lie ho h has as given us not for personal di diser tient but for the good of t all mankind A man who talents should lie bo satisfied that gud gol has given vi en him a larger stewards stewardship bip and should bo be willing wil linc to share with those to whom god lias has given but one talent this system was tried IT by this people in missouri and has alx lx been en tried in utah but it was found that there was too n inch selfishness still regnant in tile the hearts of the people and the trials were fai failure lur this does not prove the failure or of the doctrines but only lion how unfit were the people to receive such doctrines to carry out the system successfully it is necessary rv that tile people shall cast out ill feelings of selfishness that those who dispense shall not have feelings 0 of selfishness it means that there mut must be better bl bishops hopa and better counselors and high priests etts there are arc not the condi conditions tins today even in the midst of this people that will warrant tho the trying of this system but I 1 call upon the lie people to repent of their sins and to cast aside their we hear on all yides sides talk of centralized government and the evils that are arc consequent thereon we hear of many kinds of government and of the superiority of one ond over the other should there be righteousness ri over tile the world sh should kings cease there covetous ness and should classes not desire their own welfare without regard for the welfare of others then it would not matter about gorcon ment for any kind of government would be sufficient hut but kings are arc still self selfish ih and daises classes are still selfish therefore it is dangerous to trust the govern with any more power thin than is given it by a constitution that is ia strictly anti and plainly Ia drawn and it is essential in this present condition that the bounds prescribed by the constitution should not be overstepped over stepped in any
