Then, suddenly, the dramatic situation takes form, and it becomes one of the most gripping, poignant pieces of dramatic action the talking screen has ever seen. Pedestrians Should Tote A Gun Pedestrians should have more dignity when crossing the street. Every day you see them scampering across the street with a scared expression and trying to watch every direction all at once. It is seldom you see a driver reduce speed when approaching intersections (and this is required by law.) , Give the pedestrians some intelligence, and they, will provide themselves with some sort of defense. The way they jump and run to get away from a car reminds me of a fat duck trying to outrun a coyote. If all the pedestrians would carry a big smoke wagon, say the .45 Colt, and not all buttoned up like a policemans either, but withthe butt well outside the scabbard, and a belt of shiny cartridges, the regular old' style outfit after a few half drunken drivers had been touched up with some of these big slugs, I believe that just merely the sight of this outfit would do a lot to compel more careful driving. It is not unlawful to carry a gun if it is not concealed. Of course you would have to be careful of stray bullets on a crowded street. And when the officers ask. what happened, just use that old gag the motorist uses when you don't jump out of the road quick enough, and are being carried away Why feet first. The usual lingo runs something like this: slow, and no one could driving really officer, I was only ' blame me. You know a person will start out from home in a happy frame of mind, thinking everybody is so kind and loving, but after you have had to jump like a kangaroo a few times, and some driver laughs right out loud to see your undignified attitude, you really feel like asserting your rights. ' The story is that of a young Spanish singer, care-fre- e and frolicsome while singing in his cantina or dancing' with his partner. But when he reaches the pinnacle of fame as an opera star, he finds it a triumph paid for with a broken heart. Swiftly the light drama is submerged in a poignant drama of human souls. Love, sacrifice and human struggle form a mighty theme. Novarros acting is superb, and his voice glorious. As the carefree singer he romps through comicalities, until he reaches the serious side of life a difficult transition in a few feet of film, perhaps. He does it faultlessly.
