Lut it collects a gnat deal more information than it ditf then, the eon ect analysis of which indicates social , rogiexs or the leveise. Politicians and educators and theorists and they usually find some figures dtynnttt that seem to bear out their contentions. It is said that even the devil can quote scripture to prove his points, and one tan prove most anything out of the census. The orators sound very learned when they hurl quotations from these figures at the people to prove their points. But an intelligent newspaper reader often fierceives that quoted ligures have failed to give a fair picture of existing conditions. Statesmen and orators who quote census figures without analysing them fairly, may impress the multitude as very scholarly, but they make tew converts among thoughtful people. Census figures are not of much use unless they are accurate and unless analyzed with intelligence. Much depends upon the persistence and lidclity of census takers, to see that correct reports rue presented from each family. The public needs to cooperate by answering each question carefully. People who were away when the census taker called should see to it that he gets the informa-t- i' n he needs. People should consider that the census taker has a big job to lound up everyone in a district and collect the necessary information. Many careless people are probably giving the enumerators Double, Someparticularly ignorant folks may feel suspicious of fear that they were gooAthis eounC Aliens-miging to he drafted for The army or deported.. Their iriends can well suggest the foolishness of such fears, and give them information as to the real uses of this great enterprise. - - ) a ! ht , , TAXATION , By the aid of the (lash bmp Jac quellne looltnd at her waten. There was paper and string and a cashiers desk made by one small box upturned on another larger one. The children had market baskets and took turns being store keeper or shoppers. They had paper money and seem ed to have a very good idea of the meaning of pennies and nickels and dimes. Anyone who has a back yard can let children work out a similar play scheme for the cost simply of the effort required In wheedling ai empty packing ."case store from some neighborhood and saving the containers in which the family groceries come. The only danger in instigating such play at home lies in the fact that the adults of the family will be unable to resist the temptation to make the game even more educational than it already is. If you can school yourself to leave the children to their own devices, you will find that playing grocery store is an absorbing and satisfactory occupation.
