The spread was indeed a fine one, put up in the genuine native style. You know when a feast is spread out in the shades of the tropics, you have, as a rule, a young girl to fan the flies away and prepare your food as you want i't, and at the time you are ready to eat it. The bones are removed from your fish, your bananas are peeled, your oranges are placed where you can get hold of them at your leisure. It is the custom upon occasions of this kind to form a circle and listen to the beautiful melodies which are only known to the natives of Son'th Seas. These yxung men and women sing the whole night long, bringing wijh their beautiful melodies the dawn of day. They sing when they play, they sing when they work, they sing when they row, an above all things their devotional exercises both morning and evening are characterized with divine praises, and touched wkh inspir-ni.they bow in humble devo :iou and entreat the great Master for his blessings to be theirs for the day. Our feast over, we go to , the river and watch its stream dash over the lava rock ino a pit thirty feet deep, we watch the natives, both old, and young jump from this high precipice into the water below, they dare each other and down they go headfirst into the stream and bring up dimes and quarters that have been thrown in by the visitor. These natives are expert swimmers, and are not afraid of ui anything in the water line. After the natives have vacated, we do a few high jump ourstunts selves. We are not so brave at first, but the fascination grows and before we know it, we are tumbling over the higti lava rocks into the river below. Yours very truly, JAY KU JAR. Sick List G G G G G Mens Birthday Party. FRANKLIN, Idaho, May 15. It is still cold up this way, though the days are a little warmer; but we have frost mostly every night. The gardens still look sickly and nothing growing much. We still have a little sickness among us. A good many have been sick, but I am pleased to say most of them are improving. Mr. Joseph Lowe was improving fine a few days ago, but alas! he has taken a backset and is a very sick man. Two doctors have been in consultation on this case and both said he was indeed a very sick man. They called when passing on your humble servant, who has been very sick, and is at present, with a disease that is very pain-.fto him, and gave good encouragement to him. They believe when ' warm weather comes that he will begin to improve. Last Friday, May 10th, was Mrs. Hester E. Nashs wife of I. B. Nash birthday 81 years of age, Mrs. Nash, considering . her age, looks well and feels well, although broken down some, she still keeps her age wonderfully. We had with us, President Wilof Hyrum, liam C. Parkinson Slake and his wife, who is Mrs. Nashs, daughter, also two of their daughters, and Mr. Nashs eldest son, Andrew B. Nash of Rexburg. As it happened Andrew was on his way to Nampa as a deligate to the Woodmen of the Worlds convention. When he arrived at Pocatello, the train for Boise was a good many hours late, so he could not be in Nampa in time enough for the convention, so he took the train for Cache Junction and came to Franklin in time for celebrating Mrs. Nash s birthday. We had a good time together, and Mrs. Nash had some nice presents. On Sunday all the guests went home but Prest. Parkinson, who went home Monday. Well, on the 14th of next month your humble servant will years old, and if the disease that is it was not for using him so badly he would be as spry and as smart as any of them ; and he has faith, that when warm weather comes he will begin to improve and become well again. May God grant that it will be so with him. ul 3 g Opened Up Fragments be-8- a of the suffering and danger in store for her, robs the expectant mother of all pleasant anticipations of the coming event, and casts over her a ahadow of gloom which cannot be shaken off. Accompaning the skirt is a little square Elton jacket plaited and lace trimmed, worn over a blouse of lawn. The curved yoke is seen on the new spring suits. There is still the widened shoulder effect with sleeves of the kimono shape, wide and loose like the sleeves of the orient. Narrow swiss embroidery makes a pretty collar. Two pieces may be joined with insertion at the edges. Velvet bands trimmed with lace medallions also make good collars. The neckpiece that conies with the average ready made waist is seldom dainty enough to be worn, so a more elaborate arrangeneint is substituted. Here is one of the new plain shirt waists. It is made perfectly plain and depends upon the little Marie Antoinette frills for chicness. It is hardly necessary to add that only rather heavy materials make up well in this design.
