Bent Upon The Destruction of The Agricultural College. 1 I After Mature Reflection and Careful Investigation, President W. S. McCornick of the Board of Trustees of. the Agricultural College, Reached the Conclusion that the Seeming. lntentionof John C. Cutler and the Party Behind Him,. to Destroy the Agricultual College, Was Real, and Declining to Be a Party to Such an Outrage Upon the People of the State, he has Tendered his Resignation as a Member of the Board. Following this. Action Comes the Announcement that President W. J. Kerr will Also Resign. Thus are the People of the State Reaping the Reward of their Folly in Putting Into Power a Republican Administration. In tendering his resignation, W. S. MeOomick President made very plain to Cutler the reasons for his action. 'lie told the Executive that having helped to outline and put in execution, a policy under which the College bad made rapid advancement, and had come to 'be a power for not good in the State, he was ready to serve upon a board - -p- dismantling of in short that his sense of honor would not permit him to assume the part of a publledged-to-the the school ic vandal. , President MoCoraick, who is a staunch Republican, hut who is outside the organization now in control of his partys affairs, has served as President of the Board of Trustees 5f the Agricultural College since the institution was founded. He ha taken the keenest pride in the school, has fster-e- d its interests an every possible to way. and since the struggle been school he kill the has began, a veritable tower of strength for the College, to be brief he is the Colleges oldest, most 'tried and true friend. No one disputes that not even our local who are ever ready to take' a fling at the present administrat' ion of t he College. pin-hea- was asked not to resign, and what were the terms winch he laid down as the price . of remaining upon the hoard, do Mr McCormick ' you Think? ' this . tratkm of remain , that the adminis- WilliamJ. Kerr should undisturbed. 'If Kerr and his policy are to go, then Ill go too, was his ultimatum, and having satisfied himsetf that the board was packed to carry out a scheme of revenge, he lived up to it. To be sure there are those, here and elsewhere who will tell you that even with his sixteen McCornick service, years of knows little about the school, and is not as. competent to'judge of its needs as some members of the local coterie that like a pack of political coyotes have always been yelping at Kerrs heels, but perhaps their howls will not impress many. A little history may serve to make the present situation clearer. Something' more than two years ago, John C. Cutler was brought to Logan by J uoepk Howell, and introduced- - to people hereabouts as the next Governor of Utah. Knowing that the machine had selected Cutler as its candidate, some good Republicans were curious to know his position as to the College, ne blandly assured them that he was a College man, quite as much a friend of the institution as James T. Ilammond could possibly be, 'he said. Well, he Was nominated and elected,, and the first thing he did to show his regard for the Col- lege, was to appoint Thomas Smart, Susa Young Gates and L. N. Stohl as trustees. President McCornick was in Europe when the bojird met, and the first thing the man whom they knew to be Colo., last January, instructed the Silver Wedding.
