Gordon, tj State Fish and Game Warden asked Salt Lake City, Sharp hag for two . lots adjoining Liberty Park, aqa site for a State fish hatchery. ; An attempt -- is to - be made to secure- an appropriation from the Legislature for its establishment, and the gift of the "site by &alt Lake yrould go far toward .'securing it. The waters of this State are probably as' well adapted to all kind3 of fresh water fish as are those - of any State in the Union; and there is no apparent reason whyjhey should not be well stocked, if adequate measures are taken for their - protection. Fish is one of the most healthful of foods, and .could Je made ono cf the cheapest, because so prolific. The expense is small in comparison to the benefits to be derived should the hatchery be established and placed under the supervision of an expert pisciculturist, that wje doubt if a more, profitable invest' ment could be made, or one whose beneficial elfects would be more - wideepread,.. The Senatorial boom of, Hon A, W. McCune grows apace. Each day adds to bis popularity, notwithstanding the eneering comments of the Tribune regarding his wealth, and the machinations of those engaged in working in the interests of other candidates. Popular sentiment-i- s finding exthe columns of pression through the press and in public and private conversation. Notwithstanding the tone frequently assumed by some papers and individuals, the office of United States Senator is a highly important and honorable one, and the choice of an incumbent for the office is not one to be treated with levity. The U. S. Senate la" the most august, the wisest and best legislative body among the governments of the earth. It is one of the foundation stones of our liberties, and upon the preservation of its integrity and character their continuance depends. As a body it is beyond the pawer of corruption. It is the duty of every State, in the selection of its representatives, to do its part in maintaining that high standard by electing men who are tanspeur et sans rtproche, Utah already has one Senator to whom this will apply. Let it elect him a colleague as brave, as true, as honorable, as capable. The election of Mr. McCune will fill all requirements, and give Utah a representation. well-balanc- Salt during the year; a county noted for its preeminent educational facilities; a .county noted for its industrythrift and prosperity; Ja short, tlfiaostrosperous county in the State in proportion to its population, has been -- practically som9 . counties ignored, wliile which Cache could stow away in its vest pocket-and- . forget the existence of, received recognition out of all proportion to their import;-anceThe principal patronage ol the Tribune and Herald from the south; and so long as they continue to ignore Cache county as they have in the past, it will continue to do so. Each year the observant notice these things, and it does not add to the prestigeor popularity of either of the papers in this, part of the State. The Athens of Utah and the Granary of Utah, deserve more space at any and all times than they- - receive, and so long as this condition exists the Salt Lake papers can expect to receive no more than they give. . While still in eight, it is floating upon the rapid-flowin- g surface of the river of time, and is quickly receding from view to take its place upon the ocean of the ages, in which it will lose its identity as but a single drop in a limitless waste of For a few hundred, perhaps for a few thousand years, its occurrences will have definite place upon the pages of history, and its chief actors be remembered in connection with them; but eventually all will be lost sight of in the dim and misty ages of the Such isjthe history of all paBt. things earthly. It may be claimed that with our advanced civilization our means of historical perpetuation are such that the record of today will last forever. Fond False hope! Where are they today? Some of their works, as deeply hidden, in the bosom of mother earth as they themselves are, have been uncovered. There is material evidence of their work, but who performed it? The record has been lost, and the memory of the individuals who performed it has dissolved in the shadows of antiquity. Still, in their day thfy lived, toiled and -- performed "their part in the uprising of humanity.
