PLANS Logan high school is now exhibiting tlm first Harwood" to be added to its art collection, its first etching, also the work of Mr. Harwood, and its first two woodblocks. These pictures were chosen after the close of school last year from the visiting exhibits which were shown at the school last May. Loading Timber by Mr. Harwood, was chosen because it was felt that no Utah collection would be comolete without an example of the work of the Dean of Utah artists as he is sometimes affectionately called. Although not a laige picture, it is typical of the artist at his best, and is especially admired for its brilliant color and Its strong composition. It was painted during Mr. Harwoods study in Europe a year ago, and was one of an exhibit of the European work of Mr. Harwood, A. B. Wright, and B. F. Larsen. The etching, Boats of St. Trovez." Is an original artists proof, and Is the gift of Mrs. Alice Merrill Horne. The two wood blocks were selected from an exhibit made up entirely pf the work of European artists, and besides being highly decorative in themselves, as well as new feature in the the collection1, are most Interesting as examples of the new method of making .wood blocks, rather than,, by, carving, which Is becoming exceedingly popular In Europe, put is little used so far In the United States. The modest price for which these wood-bloccan be obtained is another feature which endears them to the collector and the are committee, headed by Mr. Barkdull, feel that the school was most fortunate In being able to secure them.
