Other members of the Community Betterment committee are Keith Jorgenson, Dr. John Worley, Richard Sondrup, Jim Nichols, Bill Park and Fred Critchfield. It is the first major project of this kind undertaken by the local Jaycees, and the funds taken in during the month will be used to help improve the community by cleaning up parks, making and setting up picnic tables in different areas for both tourists and local people to enjoy, and painting n lwuses and other buildings for families unable to finance it themselves. Tree Worms Now Hatching Tent caterpillers, sometimes called tree worms, are now hatching out on twigs of fruit trees and shade trees, according to Dr. George F. Knowlton, Extension Entomologist, Utah State University, Logan. They are readily controlled by the usual spray program in commercial apple orchards by all who follow the spray recommendations in the Official Fruit Pest Control for Utah 1958, bulletin. Free copies of tills bulletin are available at your local county agents office, Dr. Knowlton stated. When only a twig or two are infested they can be cut off and burned. When larger areas, or entire trees and shrubs are attacked by these caterpillers, a DDT spray, or a combination of DDT and malathion, will give excellent control on any trees and shrubs about the home. Parathion Is not suggested for use against tent caterpillars except in remote areas where people will not come in contact w'ith this highly poisonous insecticide, Dr. Knowlton indicated, "although parathion will kill the tent caterpillars. At least that's what some experts think when it comes to the stock market. It could well apply elsewhere, because there are so many built-i- n costs that price reductions are difficult to make without inviting bankruptcy. Take the stock market. Here's an intere: ' lg slant put forth by one of Wall Streets experts, L. C. Hooper, analyst for W. E. Hutton & Co. Some of the buying psychology is peculiar something new under the sun, says Hooper. For instance, one large institution has been thinking in terms of picking up 100, shares of a certain blue chip over a period. It expects this stock to go 10 or 15 points lower. But it is buying every day now because the buyer feels that he never would be able to buy more than a few thousand shares at the low. Perhaps that buyer is wrong, and Hooper notes that some of the present institutional buyers of stocks might not be as enthusiastic when they find the recession is lasting longer than they now estimate, and when they see little evidence of major heavy in- Prentice-Ha- ll JuN AND NOW A Mrs. S. We are enjoy ing a feast of fat things in Franklin. Saturday and Sunday was our stakt conference, when we had with us Pres. Joseph F. Smith. M. W. Merrill, Seymour B. Young and Golden Kimball. We also had a well organized choir under the leadership of Professor L. D. Edwards of Preston, who furnished the singing for the conference, and it is a great credit to him and his orchestra and choir for the beautiful singing and music which we sat and listened to during the conference. President Smith spoke upon the financial condition of the times and the stringency of money matters and advised the people not to mortgage their homes or farms, but to live within their means and keep out of debt. On Saturday evening we had the privilege of attending a concert gotten up by Prof. Edwards, for the benefit of our stake academy. The house was crowded and everybody enjoyed the musical treat, it being the best we have ever enoved in Franklin. TIip chorus of 50 voices was to hear and the songs of Miss Lamoreaux and Mrs. Minnie Curtis were especially sweet. The comic songs of Phil Margetts and Mr. Montague were a treat and the trios of M. James Herd, Thomas Durrant and William Kirkup brought down 'he house. But it remained for Mr. Crockett of Preston to make our s'des shake with laughter, with his recitation, entitled: Jemima, what sir? Miss Benson also favored us with a beautiful recta-tiowhich was well rendered, A Mothers Dream. entitled On Monday the 24th of July we had a famous time.
