Show THE IIERALD PAGE FOUR. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY JOURNAL, LOG AN, UTAH, - 1932. 2 4. Race In Cache Place Second For On Hoop Fight Three Teams In Battle For Chance at Tourney BY JACK CIIIUSTIANkKN With the Logan Grizzlies basketball champions of the Cache division for the sixth consecutive year, interest in the local loop will center around the deciding o! a second place winner. Each team has one more game to play but regardless of the outcome, the Grizzlies are in. North and South Cache and Bre.xton are at the present time resting in a lie for second place with two wins and three losses to their credit. IS FIRST TIME IN' HISTORY For the first time in the history of the Cache division the second place winner will be given a chance to enter the state tournawill ment. The local runner-uand the play the Ogden runner-u- p Hear winner will in turn play the Lake victor for the right to enter the state basketball tournament. Friday's games in the local loop will find Logan playing at South Cache and North Cache playing at Preston. Providing Logan trims South Cache the winner of the North game will finish in second place while if South Cache wins over the Grizzlies they will go into a tie with winner for the Bulldog-Indiasecond place honors. Judging from past performances of both teams, the most logical choice would find Logan victorious over South Cache and the dope sheet generally favoring Preston over North Cache. The game will be played in the Preston gym and the Indians are death in their own back yard as may be evidenced by the fact that they have defeated both Logan ami South Cache in their own hall. SHOI LIt HE CLOSE GAME However, the fact that the Bulldogs have beaten the Indians once this scuson tends to about even things up and perhaps it would be well to predict a dose game and let It go at that. The Bulldogs have a arc more rangy and Stronger defense Ulan the Indians, but the rrestnnitcs arc superior Both in 'speed and deception. coaches will likely rely on the same lineups as used a week ago. Coach Hebe Whiting will probably use Tripp and cither Millington or Rawlins, Atkinson at forwards; center; and Johnson and Berge son,' guards. The Bulldogs have a well rounded team with but one They haven't a ball exception. rustler. Coach Joe Call will likely rely on Chatterton and Wells, forwards; Edwards, center; ami Johnson and Poole, guards. Much on the order Of North Cache, the Indians have one glaring weakness. That is the absence of a big center. Edwards Is a fine player but be Is essena forward. tially ' Logan may run into a snag at South Cache although the Grizzlies should be able to emerge victorious without 3 great deal of trouble. However, the Jaguars have as yet to taste defeat in their own gym this season. They have played two great division games this season and they have both been in the South Cache hall. Reports have it that when the Jaguars are really hitting, they ' could beat any team in the division. This fact remains to be seen and if theyre on" against Logan, a great game of high school basketball should be the result. On the other hand, Logan must show a world of improvement within the next few weeks if tbey intend to make a good showing at the state basketball tournament. Their passing and shooting in the Preston game was at times onto the order known as spoiled. Time after time, they advanced the ball deep into Preston territory oniy to make some wild heave or it feeble attempt at the basket. The Grizzlies have a good ball team, and when clicking prerly, should hold their own with any high School learn in the state. But will tbey click. Is a question that can only be answered by time. The Aggies, should they win, would present their most bitt r rivals, the University of Utah, with the championship uncontested. The Cougars must win both games in order to gain even a tie for the title with the Utes. Coach Dick Romney of Utah Aggies is expecting to use the same five which forced the Cougars to split with them at Prt't early in the season. This group includes Captain Alsop and Young, guards; Campbell, center; and Croplcy and Bclliston at guards. Hi other Ott from B. Y. U., however, is expecting to make a change for this last desperate drive for the title. The Cougar mentor trieo out all kinds of combinations in practice Tuesday and refused, following the drill, to give a guess at whirh he would use. The Farmers really played some excellent basketball in Salt Lake and only those two or three little changes handled by. the gods ol fate, cheated them out- - of victory in at least one of the games Romney is counting on his boys to keep clicking' this week-enIf they do, it will mean the finish for B.
