In addition to the above there will lie due in December of this year a payment of $10,000.00 on the last bond issue. These make a total of $171,352.50. To meet these demands the City has on hand $20,000.00 and the estimated revenue from taxes is $95,000,00. making a total of $115,000.00 which leaves a deficit of which must be raised. Mayor Lundstrom said that a twenty per cent cut would be made in city taes for the year 1929. The cut, he declared, was due to the fact that it would not be necessary to levy a 3 and 4 mill tax for the maintenance of the City Light Plant. The levy at that time was 16 4 mills and the Mayor said the levy for 1929 would be 13 mills. There was no campaign on at that time and the above statement was no doubt On April 30, the calm and considered judgsaid: Lundstrom ment of the Mayor. 3-- 3-- We ask you now to get out your tax notices and see how accurate the Mayor was at that time. Have you any reason to believe the statements he now makes are more accurate than they were in September 1928? Not only has the Mayor failed to make the promised reduction (he is good on promises), but the bonded (indebtedness has been increased so much so that at the end of 1931, we will have overstepped our legal limit to bond to the tune of over $9,000.00. But that is not all, the City owes $95,000.00 in tax anticipation notes, $10,000.00 note on the Arimo Bldg., an open account to Mt. Notwithstanding the above assurance on the part of our present Mayor, who was undoubtedly well qualified to speak intelligently on the matter, it seems that he was wrong again, and even with the installation of a Diesel Engine the plant was not sufficient to take care of the Citys needs, and by the time 1929 rolled around, another Die1927, Mayor sel installation became necessary, and lo, by the time 1931 crept upon us another Diesel Logan City can assure all the installation became a necessity. people who come over and patronize the City Plant that they will So that whereas the people the and that be taken care of were lead to believe in 1927 that City now is and in the future will an investment of $75,000.00 would be in a position to take care of give us ample electricity to take all of their requirements. care of the entire city, we now have approximately $300,000.00 The water in the river is al- invested in our auxiliary plant. ready high and from now on and We mention these 'matters for during the rest of the summer the purpose of calling your atthe City Plant can produce much tention to the fact that the Maymore electricity than Logan City or has been so far wrong on his can use. statements and promises in the past that when he now makes a The Diesel Engine installation declaration we must accept it is expected to be completed by advisedly, if at all. Now then, here is another choice morsel: The records show that between 1925 and May 20th, 1931, the city purchased from the himself is clearly guilty of violating the law for personal gain. From this it would appear that the Mayor believes in patronizing a local merchant so far as furniture, etc., is concerned, that is to say, he believes in patronizing his own store; But, How about other concerns? Do you know that just this very year the City purchased the New Police Uniforms from a Salt Lake Merchant. Why should this be done when we have concerns in Logan who could furnish this merchandise and who are entitled to this business. Surely Logan City should patronize its local merchants when they can furnish the commodity required and when they are willing to do so at little or no profit.
