City Cemetery -law Maughan ll Christian Maughan of Wellsville 50 passed away on July 27 2004 in a motorcycle accident in Corinne Kelly was born in Logan on March 22 1954 to Seth P and Margaret G Maughan of Kelly Gurell NORTH OGDEN — Christian James Kemp 45 left family and friends on Tues- Wellsville Kelly attended Cache County schools and graduated from Sky View High School in 1972 He enlisted in the Army shortly after graduation He received electronic training at Ft evens Mass while in the Army and was in the Army Security Agency as an electronic technician 1973 to 1977 He received the Trainee of the Cycle Award the Rifle Marksman of Cycle and was honorably discharged as a Spec 5 He was also enlisted in the Utah National Guard as an NBC Specialist 1981 to 1982 Kelly worked at Thiokol from July 1981 to the present While working at Thiokol he completed managerial development classes and received the NASA Recognition Award Superior Performer Award the TQM Team Award Space Quality Award the Silver Snoopy and several performance awards Kelly was involved in church and community activities all of his life He was a faithful and devout follower of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints and held many positions throughout his lifetime He especially enjoyed working with young people Kelly was an Eagle Scout with Two Palms He was actively involved in the restoration of the Wellsville Tabernacle as a member of the Wellsville Foundation for many years Hobbies included beekeeping horseback riding wheat weaving fishing singing (Barbershop Men’s Chorus and Ward Choir) whittling and telling stories Kelly loved to camp He was a dedicated and loving father He was very health conscious and loved going to the gym Kelly loved riding on his motorcycle around the valley he had a great appreciation for the valley he grew up in He was also a firm believer in hard work and responsibility Teasing was especially important Kelly was married in the Switzerland LDS Temple to Hilda F Maughan They were later divorced He was currently engaged to Julie Reading They were to be married on Aug 28 2004 Kelly is survived by his children Caleb (Beth) of Wellsville Gideon of Wellsville Josiah of Nampa Idaho and Oralia of Wellsville his grandchildren Natania and Damian his mother Margaret G Maughan of Wellsville a sister-in-laValerie Maughan of Providence and siblings Colby (Brenda) Maughan of Wellsville Debra (Quentin) Cudney of Wellsville Randy (Kathy) Maughan of American Falls Idaho Dorcus (Stephen) Kleinschuster of River Heights Nolan Maughan of Wellsville Tracy (Jeanna) Maughan of Waco Texas and Tom (Jannette) Maughan of Wellsville Kelly was preceded in death by a son Jacob his father Seth P Maughan a brother Gregory Maughan a day July 27 2004 to start the beginning of his next journey on the other side after living with colon cancer for more than four years Chris viewed life as an adventure which began on May 25 1959 in Salt Lake City born the son of H James and Linda Hall Kemp He lived in Salt Lake until the age of 8 when his family moved to Logan He graduated from Logan High School in 1977 and from Utah State University in 1984 with a bachelor’s in marketing He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston Mass in 1986 with a master's in business administration On Aug 21 1 981 Chris married Kimberly Reeder in the Logan LDS Temple They have four daughters Kourtney Kathryn Kirsten and Klarissa whom he adored He loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints He served a mission to Merida Mexico from 1 978 to 1 980 and also served many other capacities the most recent as elder's quorum instructor which gave him the opportunity to share his knowledge and his testimony Chris’ professional life was spent working for corporations in finance and marketing on the east and west coasts In 1997 he accepted a position at Iomega Corp and welcomed the opportunity to live closer to family That importance was realized when he was diagnosed with colon cancer in March of 2000 After the diagnosis he continued to set and achieve goals accomplishing many including Senior Ski Patroller and volunteering at the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics The family wishes to express thanks to friends and family for their many kindnesses over the years A special thanks to Dr Vincent Hansen and his outstanding staff for helping Chris through this experience Surviving are his wife and daughters parents three sisters Jennifer (Larry) Carlson of Idaho Falls Carolyn (Brian) Spillane of
