Richard Upjohn, the architect, was worshipper of the Gothic, who overcome the Victorian Influence in this structure. The beautiful bronze doors by St. Gaudens derive their inspiration from the Baptistry in Florence. The interior Is dignified, spacious and impressive, with a white altar before a colored glass window. The wealth of Trinity is due to a grant given the church in the daja of Queen Anne, whereby a section of lower Manhattan was transferred. Some has been given away; some has been deeded to institutions; but the church today is the greatest tenement house owner in New York City, and its income runs into millions. When Edward VTI was the Prince of Wales, he attended Trinity on his visit to America, sitting next to Gen Winfield Scott, who served in the war of 1812, and George Bancroft, the historian.
