Guy Maybe the Bog Loses BY HILL. BILLY FOR PUPLIC of Supervisor Carl B. Arentson that plans are going forward for the opening of new public camping grounds in Logan canyon is being hailed with delight throughout Cache Valley, When construction woik on the new federal highway .was started, virtually every public camping ground and park between the mouth of the canyon and the fish hatchery was destroyed. For a time, it looked as though the road would defeat its own purpose by destroying everything it had opened up to traffic. However, Supervisor Arentson has made assurances that the public will be well taken care of. Already, work is going forward on the enlargement of the Logan are being city park und many new improvements planned. Surveys are being contemplated further up the canyon to open up other public camping sites. Mr. Arentson deserves the hearty support of the entire valley in his attitude on the canyon. Logan canyon, thus far, has managed to stay out of the commercialized Let's support Supervisor Arentson in keeping it so. , class. above, El clerk, who expressed interest IN THE PUBLIC EYE Photo (hows Adolph Beanpot, Amerchampion ican salesman of 1931. Just now, aviators are setting new marks every week. Each plane that leaves the Atlantic coast gets a little farther east before settling down. Soon, somebody will fly around the world in one hop (Really around the world; not just around the Iod of it, as Post and Catty did.) Then there'll be the first woman to world-girdland the first grandmother; and the first baby. Then somebody will fly twice around without a halt. Somebody else will fly around north and south ar d then east and west. We are an adventurous nation and our possibilities seem limitless. Every year the opportunities grow greater, not less. Ive me! em all were beating the orchardist. Frequently I wrote to that effect; even, when our best agricultural experts had the notion that the new sprays, dust and cul tlvation methods were conquering the pests. Today 1 note a general wail amonr the best eggspertg as to the survival of man and the smart spray and peat fellows admit they are not at all sure that man can beat the insects and the bacteria. I should be properly pleased to shout 1 told you so; but, as a matter of fact I am not so sure that I was right 10 years ago; and I am W no means certain that the- experts are right in their pessimism today. I have had a unique experience gave an orchard For 15 years on the hill above a neighbor's, everything; nine sprays a year; I produced clean fruit; I cultivated) 1 plowed under clover; I thinned; 1 pruned; 1 bought spray rigs and duller and gawd kens whal all. , , 1 slopped anthracnose; I raised clean fruit; no coddling moth bothered me. During this period neither sprayed, my neighbor pruned, dusted nor cultivated, and Us fruit was very wormy, scabby; Us trees were clothed with moss and Interlocking limbs formed nice dark Incubators for every ailment BUT a year ago I acquired my in neighbors place and started to prune; to fertilise; to scrape and to spray In mid season. With the crop well advanced, I can trees aee that these ' neglected have more vigor, more pep, are making more growth and have leas anthracnose and bacterial breakdown than have my trees The fruit the fellow grew was diseased. BUT the trees became hardened thru adversity and they sound are more fundamentally than my pel trees on the hill above. My neighbors trees have practi rally gotton rid of anthracnose by themselves; I have to watch my trees like a baby In a crib. So maybe nature will manage to survive? maybe nature is tough er than the eggsperts imagine perhaps coddling and cuddling brings perfect fruit at the 'ex pense of a weakened tree.
