Show LIVING Warren Fosters VOL. 4. 4 J. SALT LAKE CITY. UTAH. FRIDAY. MAY SENATOR WHITES MISSION. When Senator White last left Los Angeles, in apparent haste to reach Washington and rescue the San Pedro harbor appropriation, it was noticed with some surprise that he tarried by the way, spending some ten days at Salt Lake City. The purpose of this delay may have been known to some, but the general public has been in the dark. Living Issues, of Salt Lake City, comes to hand this week with a solution of the riddle. It seems that White went, or was sent, to Utah to prevent a fusion of the Pop ulists and Democrats. California Populists would like to know right now whether or not Senator White acted in this matter of his own accord, or by authority and with the knowledge and consent of the partv managers. White owes his election to the Populists, but he has always been an enemy to the party, and never, in the least particular, acknowledged his. obligations to the men who sent him to Washington. It is about time for California Democrats to repudiate White and his treachery or abandon ideas of co operation. Civic Review, Los Angeles, 13. None will deny that any person unaided in any way by any other person, absolutely owns the thing he makes. But, if he receives assistance from another, then the product of his hands is not entirely his, for he was unable to produce it unaided; part of the product belongs to his or in amounts according to the services rendered. Did any man make the land? Could all men working together make the landf They can reclaim land from the sea, but they cannot make land. Land is a gilt of nature. This being true, no man has an absolute right to it. All men have, however, an inalienable iight to use the land. This comes by reason of life, existence being impossible without a spot on which to exist and the right to exist being universally admitted. If, then, all men have a right to the use of land, the holding of great bodies of land bv capitalists and others in idleness, or for speculative purposes, while some suffer because they have no land, is a crime against the race. If once it be admitted that a mans right to the land lies in the fact that he needs and can use it, every foot of land not in use belongs not to the person generally known as the owner, but to the state, which should hold all such idle land in trust for unborn children. We are told that in New Zealand land untilled or uaused for three years reverts to the government. Tus is right and, lacking complete governmant ownership, should be the law in our own country. When a citizen gets or any other ready for farming, use the of land, he should pursuit requiriag be allowed to take it, paying to the state the taxes thereon and retaining it as long as he has need of it. We go farther than that, and claim that even a redemption fund is not sufficient; that paper money should have even better security than that. This may sound strange, coming as it does from flat monej source, but it is true none the less, and those who do not think it true are only those who do not know what fiat money is.
