Freda's Beauty Salon I'm a long-suff'ring house-wife and mother With nothing to make me feel gay. This house la as good as another Tho it's small and out-of-the way. There are ear-aches and fevers and ) rashes, mall faces be-speckled with grime; There are cobwebs and coal dust and ashes To keep me at work all the time. Thus reasoned my poor mind in its sorrow While tears of self-pity rained down. At thought of the chores of tomorrow to-morrow My spirit curled up with a frown. There are too many beds to a bedroom, bed-room, Inadequate closets for clothes, There's not enough lamps to banish the gloom, No place for unscheduled repose. There are sunsets and starlight and fountains, There're gardens and droning of bees, . . Dawn's rosy fingers brushing the mountains, Lazy sunlight sifting through trees. s- ' There are dewdrops and rainbows and daisies, Blue eyes that smile up into mine, There are soft words, caresses, love's praises To keep me at peace all the time. There is perfume and music and color, , Whose magic is waiting for me, There are dreams built of courage and valor, And the gifts of beauty are rree. acorns, And frisk o'er needle clad boughs As they scattered and scolded the bluejays, With whom they always have rows j . So I'll worship each morning at seven. Then a gay robin's chirping one Forgetting my tasks while I sing, morning, Brought glory and song to my eyes The grouch, I had nursed, without warning Slipped away in sulky surprise. You've guessed it Jack's One-Stop Service "Your Utah Oil Station" On Highway between Lehi and American Fork Sending thanks in my thoughts up to Heaven For hope, cheery robins and spring. Deon Mickel Beck The winds from the mountains refreshed re-freshed us, Perfumed with sage and pine. We rested beneath a huge pine tree And we knew that life was fine So long as we traveled the bypaths by-paths . ; ' That grasping men had not found, So long as we loved the dear beauty . That all around us abound. By the side of a brook we were happy As we listed to It gurgle along, Watched it dash over rocks, splash like, Then turn round the bend with a song. Homeward, we entered the glory Of -fairy land, pink and white, An apple orchard in blossom Enclosed us in snowy delight. Then up on a trail on the mountain We walked 'neath pine trees shade, And gloried in lovely snowflowers, Exotic, as though by angels made. Tonight we sit by a fireplace, Smoky and crackly and gay; We are tired with a happy tired- ness, But we'll meet life come what may. , . M. J. Centennial PIONEER DANCE FridayV April 25, H.S.
