With Our Boys Howard Robinson of Buckey Field, Colorado, spent the early part of the week in Lehi with his mother, Mrs. Erma Robinson, enroute back to camp after escorting es-corting a contingent of soldiers to an Oregon camp. He is an army cook. Ralph Allred Is enjoying a fur lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Allred. He Is In the chemical warfare division of the army. Don Johnson of the naval air corps is home on furlough this week. He -is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Urban Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gray re cently learned that their son, Earl, was one of the first Marines to land on the Marshall Islands. Earl states that he is enjoying good health. Lynn Gray, who recently was promoted to Radio Technician, Second Class with the U. S. Navy at San Francisco, spent Tuesday through Friday last week with his parents, Mr., and Mrs. Hyrum Gray. He has been in the navy since November, 1942, and re ceived his boot training at Far-ragut, Far-ragut, Idaho, before attending several navy radio schools. He left Friday for Mare Island, from where he expects to be reassigned. Harold Giles of the U. S. navy spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Afton Giles. He attended the Cherniav-sky Cherniav-sky coacert Saturday evening. Wayne S. Powell, son of Mrs. Nicoline Powell, 290 South Third street, Lehi, Utah, and whose wife lives at 691 North Third street, west Lehi, has been promoted pro-moted from staff sergeant to technical sergeant in the Headquarters Head-quarters squadron, Second Army Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. TSgt. Powell has been in the armed services two years although al-though only with the general supply department of the Signal section one month. Before com ing into the service Powell had attended Brigham Young uni versity and was with the Post Office department in Lehi. In addition to his wife he has an 18 months old daughter at home. Don Johnson of the U. S naval air corps arrived in Lehi last week for a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Urban Johnson. After a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Peterson, Valno Peterson of the army signal corps has left for Fort Ord, California, where he will be reassigned to a military post. Recently sta tioned at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he is now at Camp Hood, Texas. Jerrv Maneum has arrived in Africa with the army, according to word received here by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mangum. training at the U. S. naval aviation avia-tion technical training school. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Rutledge. Donald Rick of the navy training train-ing station at Farragut, Idaho, visited last week with his grandparents, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Rick. He is a son of Mr. and' Mrs. Leland Rick of Grand Junction, Colorado. Pfc. Ersel Fagan, who gradual ed March 5 from the Surgical Technical School at O'Reilly General hospital at Springfield, Missouri, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fagan, this week. Upon conclusion of his leave, he will report for desert maneuvers somewhere in California. There's a real shortage in that. It's to be expected when you realize there hasn't been a drop of it distilled in this country since way back in October, 1942. "The only thing distillers have been makirt during that time is war-alcohol for the Government. So, I wasn't surprised a bit to read how bootlegging and black markets have sprung up around the country as a result of the dwindling supply. Our 13 years of prohibition proved that if folks can't get legal whiskey, they'll get illicit whiskey. Sure hope the shortage doesn't last too long.
