Mrs. Archie Chadburn, Mrs. Otis H. Reed and infant daughter, daugh-ter, Jannea, have arrived home from Silver Lake, Kansas, where Mrs. Reed has been residing for the past several months. Pvt. Marriages American Fork Gardner-Jones Miss Ellen Gardner and Dr. Max W. Jones, both members of the faculty of the CSAC at Fort Collins, Colorado, were married Monday, June 14th, in the Salt Lake temple. The ceremony was performed by Mr. Charles R. Jones, a great uncle of the bridegroom and for many years president of the Mesa temple in Arizona. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardner of Fort Collins and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Jones of this city. Monday evening after the ceremony Mrs. Albert Chase of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Loris Andreason of Clearfield, sisters of the bride, entertained at dinner din-ner at the Chase home. Present were members of the two immediate immed-iate families. Sunday evening before the marriage, Mrs. D. W. Jones, entertained en-tertained at dinner in honor of her son and his bride-to-be. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Loris Andreason and daughter Larue of Clearfield; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chase and three children, and Mrs. I. D. Boley of Salt Lake City, Miss Fay Jones, Arden Spencer, Clifford Jones, Ray Jones, the host and hostess. Thursday, June 17, in the afternoon af-ternoon Mrs. D. W. Jones entertained enter-tained at a shower in compliment compli-ment to her daughter-in-law. Garden games were played with Mrs. H. E. McNeill and Mrs. J.W. Phillips directing. Delicious refreshments re-freshments were served to sixty ladies. The bride received many lovely and practical gifts for her home. Dr. and Mrs. Jones left Friday for Fort Collins where he will resume his work as head of the veterinarian department of the college. He attended the B. Y. U. where he received his B A and M A degrees and was granted his Ph. D from the University of Wisconsin Wis-consin at Madison. ' He is employed em-ployed in defense research work in Boston. ' '7 '-' 'Jr The young couple are' leaving Monday for Cambridge, Mass., where they will make their home. " Taylor-Ashby The engagement of Miss Na-dine Na-dine Taylor of Provo to Dr. Robert Rob-ert Morrell Ashby was made Saturday at an informal gathering gather-ing at the home of Miss Taylor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Taylor. The young couple will be wed in the Salt Lake temple today (Friday). Last evening the parents of the bride held open house in honor of their daughter and her fiance. Tonight on returning from Salt Lake City the newly-weds newly-weds will be complimented with a wedding dinner at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Ashby. Miss Taylor is a graduate of the B. Y. U. and has spent one year at the University oi new York. She is employed at the University of Utah. Dr. Ashby received his early education in the local schools. Hansen-Barratt Mrs. A. H. West returned home last Saturday from San Diego, Calif., where she went to attend the wedding of her daughter, Mrs. Delores Hansen to Glen C. Barratt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Barratt of this city. The ceremony was performed at the home of Bishop Brazee Hawkins on June 12th. The following fol-lowing day Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hansen of Long Beach entertained enter-tained at a family dinner in honor of the newlyweds. Covers were laid for fourteen. Pvt. and Mrs. Barratt will make their home in San Diego for the present. During her stay in southern California Mrs. West visited relatives rela-tives in several cities. She was accompanied by her small grandson, Lynn Frisby of Fielding. LETTER CARRIERS CONVENTION John Shafter returned Monday to his home in Afton, Colorado, after spending the past ten days visiting with his sisters, Miss Lillie Shafter and Mrs. Clarence A. Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton J. Mick-elsen Mick-elsen and Mrs. I. Jay Neeley were in Salt Lake City Monday evening eve-ning to attend a farewell party given in honor of their cousin Ralph Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Brown, who is leaving for service with the army. Mrs. Frank Bush, Mrs. Clark Myers of Bingham and Mrs. Roy Wilcox of Salt Lake City returned return-ed home Sunday evening from San Diego where they went to attend the funeral services of their sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph Wright. Mr. William J. Holdsworth, one of our local mail carriers was elected to the executive board of the Utah State Association of Letter Carriers at their convention conven-tion in Salt Lake City last Saturday Sat-urday evening and Sunday held jointly with the Utah State Federation Fed-eration of Post Office Clerks. Mr. Robert Hazen of Ogden was elected president of the Letter Let-ter Carriers and Fred Cooper of Provo will preside over the Post Office Clerks for the coming year. In an address at a Joint session ses-sion Postmaster I. A. Smoot of Salt Lake City urged the cooperation coop-eration of the letter carriers and clerks to maintain their high standards of service to the public pub-lic despite the rapid depletion of personnel in their ranks. He urged them to accept longer hours, if necessary, to insure adequate postal service. The value of their citizenship and the importance of keeping their organizations going were also emphasized by Mr. Smootr Mr. Holdsworth's office on the executive board is for two years duration. He was also elected a delegate to the National Convention Conven-tion of Letter Carriers to be held in Denver, Colorado, in September. Septem-ber. In attendance with Mr Holds-worth Holds-worth at the convention were Mrs. Holdsworth, Miss Sadie Nel son, Mr. James Shelley and Mrs. Viola Brown oi.Lehl. They at tended the banquet at the New. house Hotel Saturday evening as well as the business sessions on Sunday. Miss Nelson, Mrs. Brown, and Mr. Shelley attended the luncheon given at the home of Mrs. William Olsen for the Clerk's association on Sunday, while Mrs. Holdsworth was a guest at the Lady Carrier's Auxiliary Aux-iliary luncheon at the Temple Square Hotel. Week-end guests of Mr. . and Mrs. Joseph H. Storrs were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith and daughter Norlene. Mrs. Smith, the former Merline Miller, is a granddaughter of the Storrs. Mr. Smith is leaving today for military mili-tary duty. Mr. Clarence A. Grant was in Salt Lake City on Tuesday to attend an executive session of the Utah State Association of County Officials. Mrs. Wayne Mercer of Provo spent. Tuesday visiting here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso Chipman. Mrs. William Thornton, , and ton, have returned from Los Angeles where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pierson and family. William Allen Pierson, Mrs. Thornton's grandson, is leaving immediately for navy duty and Mrs. Omer Tingle, a granddaughter, was leaving to Join her husband who is with the army in Chicago. Mrs. Vivian Harris of Bingham spent most of the week as guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Chipman.
