Lehi is to get a large group of new homes out of the allotment of defense building, It was announced an-nounced this week by the local committee which has been working work-ing on the project for several months. ' The tract chosen as the site of the first scene of operation is In the Lehi Fourth ward on the property formerly owned by William Will-iam Kirkham. An area of 6'A acres has been secured here, and the purchase of property and transfer of title have been made. In turn, this ground was recently surveyed and It is hoped that within the very near future the individual lots will be staked out and construction will be under way. The other subdivision is to be constructed on the Bishop Henry Lewis estate. Here some 18 to 20 homes will be built. The company which will do the building build-ing is the American Housing Corporation of 121 East Broadway, Broad-way, Salt Lake City. Mr. Estel Wright is the president of this company and has had extensive experience in construction of all sorts, having recently completed homes in the Davis County Area, In the Magna area, and numer ous homes in various parts of Salt Lake City. The original plan calls for the placing of 32 to 34 homes on the first named tract, and the chairman of the housing committee has asked the contractor to build Just as many brick homes as he can. , It was also felt by,, the housing committee that it would be- to the permanent 5 advantage oi Lehi to have single family unit type rather than the multiple unit structure such as are being placed In the same areajs In the county. The advantage of" the single unit type Is that the family fami-ly will buy and own their own home, whereas with the other type, the people who reside there will definitely be renters, and it was felt that Lehi would receive the most permanent benefit if the homes were owned by the occupants. There Is definitely a pride which goes with possession posses-sion or ownership of a home, and the committee has arranged in the purchase of the property so that sufficient irrigation wat er goes with this tract of land to insure the possibility of a garden for each home. There is a possibility that Lehi may be called upon to provide housing or room and board for a few of the workmen who will be employed on this project. In case you could provide such accomodation ac-comodation for one or more workmen, would you pass this information along to Leo Hansen, Chairman of the Building Committee. TEMPLE EXCURSION MAY 3 There will be ah excursion to the Salt Lake Temple for all workers from Lehi stake on Monday, Mon-day, May 3. The stake Genealogical Genea-logical committee urges that as many persons as possible avail themselves of this opportunity to ettend sessions on this day. ii Victory Corps" Club Organized Here The office practice class of the Lehi high school has organized a victory corps uiud in an endeavor en-deavor to aid in the war effort They are going to help the bus! ness men and women of Lehi with their typing, taking letters and others related work, until the close of school. The Jollowing officers were elected: elect-ed: President, Grace Carson; secre tary, Edna Norman: executive com' mittee, Madge whimpey, Doris Gordon, Wllla Hadfield, Faye Nicholes, Luclle Gray and Berna- dine Fagan. The club is anxious to do all they can to help the war effort. w EYES RIGHT, Do your eyes ache when, reading or doing close work or do they burn and water.
