Alumni Elect New Officers At the annual high school Alum ni party held Friday evening in the high, school Auditorium and f irhen he became uymnasium, new oincers were elect- fc,mnPd from a boat ed to serve during the ensuing year. A board of five-were selected and will choose their president and secretary within their group. The remaining three will act as board members. The group includes George Bone, Max Wilson, Miss Delia Carson, Irvin Fox and Miss Beth Jackson. The outgoing officers are Fay Evans, president; Mrs. Eunice Hutchings, secretary; Thomas F. Kirkham, Evelyn Peterson and Wil burn Ball The group of Alumni members gathered in the high school audi torium Friday evening at 8 o'clock, where the f olowing program was given: Vocal solo by Billie Smith, vocal solo by Miss Helen Gardner, piano solo by Miss Beth Anderson, vocal trio by Misses Vera Anderson, Eva Stewart and Evelyn Peterson; brass quartet, by the Hadfield brothers, a vocal duet by Booth Sor- enson and Mrs. Odessa Cullimore. Songs and yells were led by Miss Beth Jackson. The election of officers followed the program and dancing in the gymnasium followed. Mr. Kirkham led the entire group in a number of social mixtures, which proved to be a big entertaining feature. The attendance at the alumni social so-cial was not as large as the committee com-mittee had expected, however, a Jolly good time was enjoyed and a much larger attendance is expected at the mid-winter party.. Harold Men denhall (Florence Bercry Jones) re ceived her Master of Arts degree in Zoology at the University of Utah. Mrs. Mendenhall graduated from the Lehi high school in the class of 1928 and at the University in 1932, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at the uni-verity uni-verity at that time, and for the past two years has had a teaching fellowship in the department of Zoology at the university. Mrs. Mendenhall is a member of Chi Delta Phi and- Alpha Beta Theta sororities. Phi Sigma National Nation-al Biological Fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Fra ternity. " Mrs. Mendenhall is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. Jones of this city. County Commission .Agree To Oil Saratoga Road The Utah County Commission agreed to the project of oiling the road, west of Lehi running to Saratoga Sara-toga resort, at a meeting Monday, in Provo, Lehi officials report A Lehi delegation, consisting of Mayor Taylor, Frank Eastmond, manager of the resort; Ernest N. Webb, President of the Lions club; A. Carlos Schow, president of Lehi stake, Morrell Evans, Neubura Bev-eridge, Bev-eridge, Aaron Evans, David Peterson, Peter-son, Henry Wathen and E. B. Jones, met with the county commissioners Monday to find out Just what could be done on the project. They pointed out to the commis sion the dangerous condition of the road, due to dust caused by heavy traffic and asked that something be done Immediately to improve it. After a discussion it was thought best to oil the road at the present time, the project to cost approximately approxi-mately $600.00. The Lehi delegation also asked for the hard surfacing of the road west of the Jordan river steel bridge. County Commissioner GUI- man stated that a project of this nature for both roads would cost armroximately $60,000.00 and they were unable to allow that much now. as the county has only $48, 000.00 budgeted for road work and approximately half of this amount has already been spent. A fund of $1,621.00 is vaiiawe from the FERA for improving the Saratoga road, and it was decided and agreed upon at the meeting Monday by the commission to oil the road at the present time and then use the FERA fund to gravel the road. It was decided to begin the gravel work In the very near future, starting! at one end and workine until it is completed. Thr have a gravel, which sets hard wher applied and they decided to experiment experi-ment with this gravel and if it proves successful on this road they will start the graveling immediately, Lehi officials report. -JsroMk-wlll start on the oiling oi theoad as soon as state equipment can be secured, Hilton H. Roy Passey conducted a series of lively games. ( All during the afternoon bathing was enjoyed. Children were given priaes, consisting con-sisting of Nickles. The luncheon period was from 6:30 until 7:30 p. m., during which time a band concert con-cert was also enjoyed. In the evening a swimming demonstration dem-onstration was conducted under th" direction of Mr. Passey and proved to be a very outstanding event. i-iic aance in tne evening was crowded to capacity and proved to be an Ideal climax for the day's ac tivities. During the afternoon the Lehi Third ward M Men and the Kolob rtake championship team played for district honors in the sdftbaH league. Wei Tne contract for the well, to be driven by the Lehi Irrigation com' lor me benefit or Its mem bers, was Bigned with the Government Govern-ment Drouth Committee in Salt Lake City Monday. The contract has been let to Fer ris and Gardner of San Jose, Call fornla, who will commence the work at once. The well Is expected to be completed and in operation in less than twenty days. It Is a pump well and will be driv en north of the city power plant on the big field ditch. It will be driven to a depth of between 200 and 300 feet. LA. nnrl Primnrv Jnnp Conference Begins Friday Lehi Stake People to Participate In Contest Final A large number of Lehi stake people are planning to attend the annual June conference of th Ma tual Improvement association and the Primary association in Salt Lake City. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 8, S and 10. A number of members of this stake will participate in the M. I. A. contest finals, mulo festival, M. Men Softball finals and a flag ceremony. Fifty-eight men and women from this stake, under the direction of Miss Aileen Erickson, will take part In the Grand Music Festival Saturday night, directed by Nobel Cain of Chicago. A chorus of 3,000 will present this festival Of the fifty-eight voices from this stake, thirty-six are ladies and twenty twen-ty are men. They will go to Salt Lake City Thursday evening for rehearsal re-hearsal with this noted leader, Mr. Cain, and will rehearse with the entire chorus Thursday evening, all day Friday and all day Saturday, preparatory to the grand festival Saturday night. Those attending the music festival must have tickets to be admitted. The festival will take place at 8 p. m. Saturday night in the tabernacle. Miss Delia Roberts and Von Ad amson, representing Lehi stake, will participate in the finals in the orig inal dance contest at Salt Air Fri day evening.
